been messing around with databending bc glitch art is so cool so here's my results for today
sooo first i went on pinterest to look for some cool pics to destroy in a hex editor
this one is cool bc most of the distortion is in neat bands. i rlly like that theres one that directly covers the eye. plus the distorted color is very limited, which i like. it annoys me when all the image is just random colors unless thats the intended look
this one is super neat firstly bc haiiii ultronnn ;PPPPP but also the sharpness being shifted looks soooo cool its all those squiggly white lines. i might try making some textures by seeing if i can somehow extract just the squiggles although i thiunk that would be hard. tbh itd probably just be easier to just sharpen an image in an image editing software but keep the sharpness on a seperate layer ill do research later.
ok so next i decided to have a go at videos again. when i first tried this the reults were meh, i was just fucking around in a hex editor which usually ended up giving me an unusable file. so, i did my research and found this: https://nickbriz.com/databending101/gctv3.html. essentially you can modify the codec ffmpeg uses to encode videos and if you just dump in random values itll look all messed up. i couldnt follow the tutorial exactly but i did a similar thing and got some nice results (gotta be a link to the file srry)(also flash warnings obvs)

"ermm... what the flip? thats an audio file", you cry, but actually the video is just so corrupted that ur browser cant read it (unless it can? idk i dont feel like testing every browser). soooo i had to screen record for you guys to see it
yeah its an edit i made today for fun... i think the file is somehow corrupted still?? bc there's meant to be audio. if you wanna hear it you can download the first video (that didnt play at all) and then play it in vlc which definitely works. you can also try other video players and you might get other cool glitches or it just wont play. also the audio is just lemonade by sophie so i guess you can just go listen to it (as you should)

is it nicer? hmmm yeah sorta? firstly i had to compress the screen recording sorry guys it was like 60mb it looks a lot nicer in full res. i think itd look good without the black glitching which is from my screen recorder not the original file and itd look rlly cool with some adobe after effects work
yeah so thats the haul today. i rlly like the pictures, the videos still need work. i need to figure out how to drop the uhh b-frames(??) in a video bc it looks rlly cool but i only know tools that do that automatically but id rather do it manually
