the current state of overwatch

it is currently season 16 in overwatch 2. over the past couple months, overwatch has gone through numerous changes (both bad and good) so i thought i'd go over them and what i'd like to see changed.

  • perks
the perk system is overall a very welcome change, coming from someone who plays a lot of tank. even the SLIGHTEST bit of incentive to stop the incessant counter swapping makes playing tank much more enjoyable. as many have pointed out though, many perks feel game-changing while others are like going from hero 1.0 to 1.01. lifeweaver in particular should just have cleansing grip by default, it fits his kit perfectly and does not change a significant amount since grip is on SUCH a long cooldown. besides that perk and others of a similar level of "that's it? that's the perk?" the perks are pretty fun and make the game a bit more interesting.
  • freja
season 16's freja is a bit boring to me, to be honest. the bounty hunter thing is pretty cool and if blizzard still cared about the lore, i'd probably have the chance to enjoy her inclusion. the current state of her in terms of gameplay is pretty unforgivable, as her projectiles just latch onto you from miles away and instantly eviscerate you. this explosion spam is especially bad in stadium (expanded on in the next point). as for her character design? it's mediocre at best, and i absolutelyyyy believe she will have skins that eclipse the original design.
  • stadium
on launch, stadium was incredible fun. just making the most broken builds you can imagine and still getting destroyed by a flying rein was great. but as of the mid-season patch, things have gotten a lot more frustrating. fun/good builds got nerfed into the ground and freja just does not currently work well in the mode. as i previously mentioned, she can just spam explosions that do unreal amount of damage in the normal modes, and this intensity is multiplied in stadium. it made the mode straight up unfun for me as a casual stadium player. the worst part is that blizzard KNOWS she's a problem and still rushed her into the mode just to say that she's included.
  • balance
i'm not an expert on balance and will NEVER claim to be. in my opinion, though, the game has started to feel a lot more fair on most heroes in the normal modes. freja is still an issue, but mauga got a hugeee nerf and made playing tank no longer a HA HAAAAAAAA 1v1. as for other roles, i main support but i'd like to see the role overall to get a damage nerf. as much as i enjoy getting jumped by doomfist and kicking his ass, it's a lillll bit insane to pull it off as a character role with already increased self-sustainability.

overall, the things introduced to overwatch lately have been pretty positive! i have high hopes for the future of the game, and just PRAY freja gets a small rework or a reasonable nerf. might be a skill issue, but she is far too easy to get value on as of this season.
