Entry 6 – Fiction and My Life [04/06/2025]

Hello, reader.

Title explains a lot. (Proofreading Silvern here; I changed the title so this sentence doesn’t even make sense anymore. But I assure you, the rest of the text does.) I have literally no idea what to write for today. Nothing particularly eventful has happened in my life in the past eight days. Nevertheless, I shall attempt to freestyle the heck out of this one. Hopefully, it makes some semblance of sense. In the case that it does, enjoy the read.

Firstly, I finished reading The Sun and the Star last night. I stayed up until 1 AM to get through the last thirty pages that I had saved, and then texted <I6WmjxEz> for some time (I’ve been trying to reconnect with some friends after my period of isolation). And then I wrote another paragraph on my fanfic, which isn’t much but it’s still progress. And then there was a lot of yelling in my neighbourhood, so I went out to the balcony to try to figure out what it might be (I did figure it out in the end). And then I went to sleep, because I was sleepy. Sorry for the horribly structured sentences in this paragraph, but I’m literally so lost on ideas right now. This is all you get here.

Anyways, the book was amazing. It’s got a few small loopholes and discrepancies and confusing sentences here and there, but it still delivers its message so beautifully. It felt a lot more slow/calm and introspective than the other Rick Riordan books, and I think I really like that. My sister suggested that this change in style was likely due to another author, Mark Oshiro, also being involved – and yeah, that makes sense. I also feel like it gave a really good closure to Nico di Angelo’s story that hadn’t completely been done in the previous books, and also gives me hope for the future. Hope that things can change, and that this change can be a good thing. Don’t know if you can tell, but I’m a lover of happy endings (Ultrakill being basically the only exception lol). I don’t have much else to say here, but I absorbed a lot of things, and I highly encourage you to go read this book yourself – especially if you’ve already read the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series. And if you haven’t, then go read those too first, lest you miss out on an incredible reading experience and fandom.

Speaking of introspective, I want to finally introduce what exactly the fanfic I’m writing is based off of, because this fandom has been such a significant part of my life so far. So, most people know about Tangled, the 2010 Disney movie adaptation of the Rapunzel fairy tale. And some of those people know that Tangled has a spin-off TV series called Tangled: the Series or Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure. But, fewer still (or I assume it’s a few) are aware that the character Varian from this spin-off series, actually had a proposed spin-off of his own. This spin-off – called Varian and the Seven Kingdoms – was proposed by two storyboarders who had worked on Tangled: the Series. The plot involved Varian finding his late mother’s old journal, which recounted her going through seven trials in each of the seven kingdoms, in order to gain access to this place called the Eternal Library. This Library supposedly had whatever possible knowledge that existed. Varian then decides to follow in his mother’s footsteps and undertake this quest himself, being joined by three more people – Yong, Hugo, and Princess Nuru – along the way.

The concept was rejected by Disney (assumably due to Varian not being a central character), but the original creators then released Vat7K out into the public as an AU. Since then, there has been a growing community of fan-artists and -writers (myself included) who take this concept and add their own ideas onto it, shaping it into the fandom that it is today. The reason I started this segment the way I did, is because the original concept also has a sub-plot of spiritual alchemy, which has a lot to do with self-discovery. The fanfic I’m currently trying to write involves adapting the full seven-trials plot, but in space. And there will be a lot of introspection involved, likely both for the characters and for myself. At least, I hope so, because I guess that would mean that I’ve done my job well. I just have to hold on and keep making stuff to actually get to that point. I also have some other references for this; for example, the game Celeste and – of course – the fan-works that already exist for Vat7K. Bonus update: Varigo Week 2025 starts in four days, and I’m going to try my best to participate this year :)

Okay this is getting tiring for me already. Last thing I want to mention is that I’m going on a trip soon, but I’m not going to mention where or when or for how long because reasons. I’m terrified for it. Slightly excited. But I am still exhausted and burnt out, so I don’t even know what could go wrong. Also, I’ve finally shared this blog with my friend <aBvA5Qri> and not forgotten or pushed that off again. I also called him and talked to him for two hours today, after like idk a month of not really doing so. It was really nice. If you are reading this right now, hi fren :D

Aaaand that’s all, folks. Have a good week, go drink water, and okay bye.
