I hate when history books do this!!

AAHHH I hate when they have some throwaway line about something that sounds so interesting!!! Like please elaborate on that!!! 

I'm rereading two different course books on Finnish history and in one of them it is stated that in 1940 before the continuation war Finland and Sweden were secretly thinking about forming a state union/confederacy (I have no idea what valtioliitto is in English) but it was denied by both German and Soviet diplomats. 

In the other book, the chapter discussing Finlandisation has, once again, one (1) sentence that states that after the CSCE meeting was held in Helsinki in 1975, the positive attention that Finland was getting from the west "annoyed/got into the USSR's nerves" (why does this book word these things like the USSR is an overly controlling boyfriend?? ). 

I know both of these books are trying to squeeze like 200 years worth of stuff into one course but PLEASE I WANT TO KNOW MORE!!!
