Scene kid fashion on a budget!!

As someone with limited funds, dressing scene has been pretty difficult. Here are some things I've done to get my dream scene wardrobe without breaking the bank.

*disclaimer: the scene subculture is equally (if not more) about the music than the fashion!

1. Hair

arguably the most important part of the scene look, the hair is fairly easy to do by yourself. looking up tutorials online is probably the best way to get it done without making a pricey appointment at a hair salon. DO. NOT. GO. TO. A. BUDGET. HAIR. PLACE!!! (Great Clips, Supercuts, ect.) they will screw you up, trust me. unless you want the Karen haircut, id suggest DIY-Ing it.

2. Shirts and tops

dont go on Shein or temu. just don't. take your time to find stuff at the thrift. going to thrift stores around more populated areas will give you a better chance at finding alternative stuff. Fabric paint is easy to use and can be found at most dollar stores. find a design you like and try to replicate it on a thrifted tee or tank top. just a simple neon tank top can be styled to look scene. be creative with it!!

3. Pants

black skinny jeans are my personal go-to, but boot-cut or baggy jeans can look good too. jean shorts are easy to thrift and patterned leggings can be found at party stores and Halloween stores. don't buy pre-ripped stuff, just do it yourself. pre-ripped stuff is typically more expensive. Pair with a belt.

4. Shoes

I've gotten all but 2 pairs of my converse from the thrift. buying a new pair for $40+ is pointless when you can get them secondhand for $5. although, if you are to splurge on one thing on this list It should be shoes. you want quality so they last. customize them to your liking, even generic Walmart sneakers can look scene if you put a lil effort into decorating them. Kandi beads can be found at the dollar store, put some on the laces.

5. Accessories and more

Kandi is an easy and accessible way to make your outfits more interesting. dollar store is your best friend. you can even make checkered belts out of Kandi. get creative and look up tutorials!! shutter shades can be bought at party stores (I got some that light up!!) keychain plushies are good to clip onto belt loops. I found an old chain at a thrift store and now I use it as a belt chain. neon acrylic chains can be found at fabric stores, they are fun to make stuff with. get black nail polish from dollar stores.
