⚠️ Spoilers ahead!!! ⚠️
So a few days ago, I watched the live action Lilo & Stitch movie with my cousin. I might have missed the very beginning of the movie because I was running late. The earliest line I remember getting started on was the pink axolotl creature thingy saying "EaUrTh" which of course she was trying to say "Earth" like in the original movie, classic (◡‿◡)
My rating for this movie would be a 5.5/10, not too terrible as everyone was making it out to be, but it also wasn't that good or the most amazing movie out there. Here's why:
- Overall, the movie is kinda funny, cute, wacky, and can get pretty sad. I did tear up a few times tbh. Then there were some scenes I was cackling at, especially with my cousin making jokes on the side like "I would've been gave Lilo up for foster care" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) only because of how bad she was behaving lol. However, the movie also took it to a modern twist, so the world looks like 2019/early 2020's aesthetic as well as using cellphones, and of course someone had to mention "TikTok". Oh and who tells their sister, "hey boo thang" bc that threw me clean off 😭
- The majority of the movie I was trying to figure out which one was Myrtle-
- Where's Gantu?
- Jumba's voice sounded strange and was the bad guy the entire movie instead of redeeming himself at the end.
- There were also some stupid changes like how Nani basically blamed her parents for leaving them. Now, if they actually did leave them for this version of the movie, I get it. However, if her parents only died, I think she was horrible for saying that... It's hard to tell since the context is hardly there. Though people in the movie made it out to seem that they died sooooo...
- Another thing, the pacing of the movie was kinda weird at times. There were sudden jumpcuts that I did not expect.
- Saving the tea for last, Nani giving Lilo up for foster care was the most contradicting thing ever. Sure I may be at least relieved that she went to a neighbor we know well enough in the movie that was loving and another mother figure instead of someone we have no clue of, otherwise I would be raging more about this... maybe even giving this movie a lower rating, but the whole point of the movie was to teach Ohana! "Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten" but apparently "Ohana means giving up your family since they're in the way of your goals" (even though they're suppose to be your inspiriation of getting to your goals) and yet, I don't remember Nani even having college on her mind and the whole message felt weird when Lilo was put up for foster care I- (╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻ You cannooooot rewrite a message of a movie you're trying to bring liveaction. I hate when live actions take a modern twist because this would make sense in the state of the world right now, but it doesn't make sense to the original. I can understand if it was a remake, but it's liveactionnnn not a remake for modern times aaaaa!
All in all, I do have one more thing to say, if Lilo & Stitch never existed and this liveaction is the original that came out this year, I would actually rate this a 7.5/10. It'd be a solid movie, though I can see some things would have to be rewritten in order for the movie to make sense. There were some things that referenced to the original movie and wasn't much context to that.
That's all I gotta say :) Stay amazing and go love on your family! <3 (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
