20 weeks of paramore - week 13 - fences

"if you let me, i could [...] show you how to build your fences, set restrictions..."

week 13, sorry it’s so late! but this week’s song is fences, a fascinating one off the riot! album. 

for starters, it has a pretty different sound than what one would usually expect of paramore, different from their usual more heavy sound. for some reason, it always makes me think of steampunk? it has this air of mystery and arid warmth (though not very welcoming) to it, and hayley's voice is rather mocking / teasing. though the nature of this song's lyrics-- like all of paramore's-- are grounded in reality.

the song's lyrics regard the pressures of fame and being in the spotlight. deciding what parts to share about yourself (if possible), plastering on a smile despite the turmoil that may rage within. but (and this applies to all walks of life,) there's only so much a person can take, there's only so much you can push down again and again until it has no choice but to be expressed somewhere. when will that be? where will it be, how?
