self-expression shouldn't be penalized!!

i just want to preface this blog post by saying YES i understand employers have a right to want to be able to have employees that represent the company in a positive way.

okay. so i work at a local arcade (nothing like a big chain) and im a piercing enthusiast (plus generally pretty well versed in the hardcore/emo scene). i have 10 piercings total, wear lots of thick, dark makeup, all that yadda yadda.

and i really love my job!! i love working at the arcade especially since i love working with kids and plan on having my own someday + working with children in the future.

but it is literally soooooo annoying that my job is strict on appearance. NO jewelry besides earrings, 3 piercings only for women and 1 set of piercings for men (ears only), no tattoos, no dyed hair, nothing that would "distract" customers from the aura of the establishment. if you break any of the rules like dying your hair an unnatural color you'll be met with an immediate termination !! which is soooo wack.

i kinda get it but also like. its an arcade, thats kinda where u expect to see zany looking people working ?? the no dyed hair thing is what really gets me, cuz hair color is such a minor thing, and you can b professional with crazy hair colors.

i mean i still respect the rules but if i ever leave my current post ill definitely be dying my hair and getting more piercings lol.
