I need help.. majorly. 06/02/25

Ok, so I need help right away. I'm starting to feel self conscious about buying things at Hot Topic, and I feel SO AWFUL now when I even think about it because "fast fashion" is constantly buzzing in my ear. My mom told me that Hot Topic is a mix of both, but... People in the scemo community keep saying to thrift! But the thing is, I don't know where to start or what to do! Its honestly driving me nuts. I wanna get a belt and post about it, or buy some pants from them, but I'm scared I'd be called a poser when I'm not!!! See why this is driving me crazy??

The last thing I want to be called is a poser. I'm genuinely getting into emo music (not just Evanescence or My Chemical Romance, not that they aren't good but I'm getting into more stuff), going to get a haircut, gonna get accessories, piercings, and I have lots of cool clothes and band tees, and yet I feel like buying from Hot Topic is just... Wrong! Is it wrong? Please, older emos tell me! It's so normalized, but normalized doesn't always mean the good thing to do.

I am going to go to a thrift store later today. It's close to where I am right now (I'm visiting a family member, and a thrift store is a 20 min walk away. May be long but it beats taking the bus for 2 hours!), so I'm going to see what I can get and change it up a bit y'know??? That's how I'll start. But I still need help on where to go!

If nobody will answer to this blog then that's ok. I'll make my own decisions in the end. But I'm sorry that when I do, I make a bad one in this community. I'm genuinely trying my hardest not to be called a poser. So yeah...

xoxo

Honestly it really doesn't matter. Of course thrift as much as you can, but shopping at hot topic isn't the end of the world. No one will bat an eye, and if they do they are weird lol. I think you should focus more on being happy with what you like. I can promise you that no one cares if you are a 'poser' or not. Don't change how you are in order to seem more valid or to be accepted, it kinda defeats the purpose. As for thrifting, make pinterest boards of clothes you want to find for inspo. Start off with simple things like a striped shirt or black skinny jeans. Don't expect to find sosohappy or cupcake cult lol. Set realistic expectations so you don't lose motivation!! You can also try depop, ebay and mercari!

ty for the comment and your feedback!! [happy]. im so sorry if i came off as a little weird, i just not used to being in this sort of community [nervous]!! im in the cosplay community, and the only way to fit in is well... just cosplay! but with this kinda community is very different, so i wanna make sure i know my stuff. i just saw piles on piles of people on blogs here talking about how you should buy from hot topic, or you SHOULD buy. it mixed up my brain a little bit which is why i made this blog.

thank you so much for your help.. ill keep your comment on my mind!! <3
