DIY boot laces from paracord

Materials Necessary:

- Paracord

- Lighter

Step 1: Choose the right paracord length

8-10 Eye boots: 160cm

14-15 eye boots: 250cm

20 eye boots: 300cm

If you want a wrap-around finish like in the photo (ignore the left wrap around, it kept undoing itself), get one size higher (~350cm for 20 eye).

Paracord is sold at most military supply stores by the meter, and is also very cheap. I got 6 meters for 2.37 euros.

Step 2: Burn the ends with a lighter

Paracord has strings coming out of it when cut, and the color on the outside is simply a cover, you don't want the strings to be sliding in and out of the cover, so we'll be closing the ends.

Do this outside on the concrete. Place the paracord above a lighter and hold for a few seconds. The material will melt and you can mold it either by pressing down on it with your fingers (this will hurt!) or stomping on it with your boots or a solid item. Make sure that they're thin enough to pass through the eyes; if they're not, heat them up and burn off the excess material.

Pro tip: you want to melt the cover into being closed, not the strings. I personally burnt those until they fell off, then melted the yellow cover repeatedly while molding it by stepping on it with my boots. The strings, when melted, will form a mass which will probably be too large to pass through the eye holes. That's why I melted them off.
