ultrakill had me thinking today, thinking a LOT. so in case i need it, i'm gonna write some things down
"If you really think about it, nothing matters. The mind, so vast, can comprehend the fact that we will die soon. But the emotional part of it cannot come to terms of that fact. That everything will perish, every living or existing thing will all come to an end, and we will be no more. Everything comes to an end. We will die. And everything around us will soon die, too.
It doesn't matter if you've lived a good life or made a legacy. People will forget you. And everything that has ever been known on earth, will also be forgotten.
Intelligence is a flaw. The more we grow self aware about our existence and the world around us, the more paranoid and scared we start to get. That will be the downfall of humanity, because we are emotional. We will drive ourselves insane from trying to hide ourselves from our own knowledge or trying to find some reasoning into our self awareness, that it will be the doom of everything and everyone. And it's already happening now, because existential crisis's and dread are already starting to form.
Such as the Irish Elk, who's antlers grew so vast and big that it could not run from predators any more.
Despite this, everything has a hint of ignorance in them. Especially children, who don't want to ponder on the facts or theories about their own existence, because they cannot comprehend the concept. Their minds are not fully ready for the idea, which is when they become fully aware, they do not know how to deal with it.
So we set distractions. Hobbies. jobs. Therapy. For "help" for those who question this persistent feeling of uselessness and name it a disorder. But really, it's all because of people's willingness to repress their thoughts from topics like this. From the truth. We limit our minds from thinking about subjects like this, trying to limit our mind from straying to afar, to stop the flow of our own intelligence. But in the end, it's all because we refuse to ever acknowledge the truth, to keep ourselves sane."
This is true, but there are contradictions to this.
If nothing matters and have a purpose, that means there is nothing stopping us from doing the things we want. There is no exact reason why we cant NOT do anything. Because in the end: if we don't have to do anything, we don't have to do nothing. And that's also another reason why people practice in hobbies.
If nothing matters, we don't have a reason to stop doing the things that feed our self indulgence.
If this world has no meaning, no existence, the best we can do is live. Everything was mostly invented because the feeling of want, of need. Even if it universally doesn't matter, it increases our lifetime. If everyone stopped doing the things they did because nothing mattered, wouldn't that also drive humanity insane, just like how intelligence can be dangerous? It's kind of a lose lose situation, so we find balance.
Focusing your mind on negative topics, it eventually learns to overpower the positive ones, and therefore, would not exactly make you become "self aware" but would also make you really depressed and die quicker than you should've. That is also a contradiction. Some people who even come close to coming in terms with this fact end up stagnant, and also can drive themselves insane.
And I'm not saying to avoid these topics as a whole. You can ponder about these while also keeping the balance with the positive affects. After all, both the good and bad represent Ying yang. Balance. And also, the good and the bad are connected with each other. Despite being literal polar opposites: Good is just the highest and best level of bad, and bad is just the lowest and worst level of good. They are the same thing, just on different levels.
People sometimes will let negativity consume them and cover it up for being logical. If you constantly let the idea that nothing matters, your thoughts will become your emotions. Negativity is a mindset, which can form negative emotions, so you yourself, will not become logical and instead drift more towards being emotional.
And yes, in your eyes, maybe everything comes to an end. But before it ends, don't you want to do something with your life before it ends? This is your gift. An ability to fulfill a purpose that you, created entirely by yourself, out of the literal free will that was also gifted to us, could be achieved. The feeling of satisfaction before we eventually perish.
However— nothing really ends. Ending; does not exist. For your existence to “end”, you would have to be completely erased. No trace of your existence has ever been there. No beginning, and obviously: no end. Which isn’t possible because you’re still here.
the concept of “ending” does not exist. nothing ends. once something has existed, it has never ended. i mean name one thing that has COMPLETELY ended. just because something dies doesn’t mean it exactly “ends”, it’s existence is not erased, because as long as it has existed it is never fully perished because the knowledge of what used to or will exist in the future is already in peoples minds. even as they forget it, forgetting doesn’t erase existence
If you have existed, you never end. Even when you die, your existence isn’t erased completely. You are still somewhere, whether it be the afterlife or just darkness. Just because you won’t exist in the world you were previously in doesn’t mean you don’t exist in another realm, God knows where that is?
Time is also a constant. It will never break. Therefore, the amount of time you spend is never equivalent to the amount of time you waste. Time can never be wasted because it never ends. It is a constant loop.
what people REALLY mean is the end of our life: which is where time comes in
we will still exist whether it be in the afterlife or a blank screen, the mind will still perceieve, life, a one time chance, can end only is time is a constant/exists in that world
life is infinite. time is a boundary. because life and time exist, life is a line, and time is the point. so time and life together form a ray: the time sets limits for life
Because time cannot be wasted- go! Do whatever you need to!
Even if it has no “good” purpose, you are still using time for a purpose. Some may spend their time helping others, doing nothing, or creating chaos. Whatever it is— it is never worthless.
An hour doing nothing is still an hour doing something
Besides, everyone, or at least at one point, wants to have fun in a world without a known purpose. I mean, would you rather perish to becoming nothing while also being nothing while you were alive? No contributions, no interests, no hobbies, no friends, no sense of self--nothing, and then becoming literally nothing in the end? To be nothing, and remembered as nothing? Or would you rather live your life at least having some contribution to the world or having fun with others/yourself, becoming SOMETHING, before dying as nothing? To be remembered as something?
You have a choice. You have free will, no matter what. Because time cannot be wasted. It is the flow of everything around us, it will exist no matter how unstable it can get. Same thing with choice and free will, they are both connected to time. Society may put rules to limit our free will, which is like, reasonable for moral purposes... but rules can be broken. Out of free will. Out of choices. Therefore, choices and free will remain constant. And our choices lead to the endings we led ourselves to. That is the gift of living, that is our purpose.
