Poem

Time to say goodbye

It's long past time I let you go.
A part of me still loves you, just so you know.
Who am I without you?
I have a lot of thinking left to do.
Thank you for still being my friend.
While I'm sad this is the end.
Surely something waits anew.
For me and for you.
I will never forget how you made me feel.
The joy you gave me was far too real.
I was glad to be part of your world for a while.
I could never forget your beautiful smile.
My heart hurts to let you go.
But it's for the best, I know.
The worst part of falling in love with friends.
Is that it always ends.

The heartache is real... here's a little mini-poem I wrote when my amnesia recovery began to be more than my girlfriend could bare to support me through (it doesn't actually rhyme though) -

The heart of a poet
Can be far easier to fall in love with
Than to actually love
They tend to be filled
With the shards of many broken things
That bleed all who dare to reach inside

I would say that your heart has some new shards in it... they never go away or get any smaller or less painful, but the heart can grow to make room for other things.

If you like, my blog is filled with song lyrics and poetry... some of which is probably pretty offensive, but most of which is heartfelt emotions... that was pretty much the whole reason I joined this site was to blog my writing again now that I have it back... and hopefully meet some other writers to help me feel less alone.

Thank you. I was absolutely in love with this guy and he broke my heart so badly it took me years to get over him.

I'm honestly not trying to be that guy that has to one-up everything.. but the sort version of my story is that I was in love with this girl.. and she broke my heart so badly that I suffered amnesia for 13 years.. there was a lot more in that recipe than just her breaking my heart.. but she was the nail in the coffin... the anvil that broke the camel's back... and the amnesia took away my poetry and songwriting along with every memory of ever having met or known her... but was otherwise entirely unnoticeable.
