One of the coolest games I've ever played that still holds up today is the first Mega Man X.Â
A lot of memories about this game! I first played it as a demo on Windows 95. It only consisted of the intro stage, but I remember playing that demo over and over.
One day, I went to... it was either KB Toys or Babbage's... and got the full game there!
It came bundled with a 6 button controller called "PC Fighter 6", which was very helpful to have! Also bundled was a demo game from Capcom called Tang-Chi.
Anyway, I started playing the SNES version after, and I realized how much better the music sounded in that version.
To this day, I still have this image engraved in my mind - encountering the wasp in the intro stage. The enemy designs in this game were pretty cool!
I absolutely love the Stage Selection screen. The bosses in the X series were very unique and well designed! The stage replayability factor was also pretty awesome!
These capsules give you armor upgrades that are beneficial as you progress through the game. One in particular can give you the ability to Dash, which is so important to have! I feel sorry for anyone who plays this game for the first time and discovers the dash last. xD
There are certain items hidden in each stage such as Life Ups and Sub Tanks that sometimes require you to use different weapons to get them. For example, Chill Penguin's stage has these domes where you need Flame Mammoth's Fire Wave to burn it down.
Armored Armadildo is my probably my favorite boss. He's got that mix of cute and cool. Very adorable design!Â
Getting the Hadouken powerup was a real treat as well! It's a one hit kill with any enemy (even bosses) if executed correctly.
Fighting Sigma was a pain, but dang I really like this design!!
The attack patterns are hard and kind of random, but I figured out how to get some good hits in by standing on the edge of the hand and blasting away lol.
This is truly a masterpiece of a game that I still cherish today.
Have you ever played this game? Do you have a favorite Mega Man game? Let me know!
