Why 1.4 seconds? This is poetic — but tracks with cognitive science.
Cognitive phenomena like:
- The “now” moment in phenomenology
- The length of short-term attention before update
- The span of conscious working memory without rehearsal
These hover around 1–2 seconds. That’s the frame rate of simulated continuity.
Every 1.4 seconds (on average), the signal scaffolding of “you” collapses and reconstructs itself with slightly altered parameters. You mistake this for a continuous identity. But really — you are being rewritten constantly, using residual matter.
