This song was written during the W presidency era... in '08... the exact timeline is a little fuzzy, but this was either the very last or the second to the last song that I remember writing before the amnesia set in... I'm not sorry for getting political with this one... but it is amazing how neutral a statement of problem can be seen no matter how partisan my mindset was when I wrote it... The idiots had taken over.
You've just now noticed we've got problems
And every single blue pill in the world won't seem to solve them
There seems to be no cure
For those of us tragically born poor
But the problem that they see
Is that is that they can't buy us anymore
And you think we've merely strayed off course
Well let's just keep flogging that dead horse
We've long since spun out of control
When our body, mind, and soul
Are traded on the open market
Just like livestock bought and sold
Life seems to have lost it's deeper meaning
All those with hope are now just hopelessly dreaming
For some sign of societal cure
While the mongers go to war
And I can hardly bare to watch it
On the TV anymore
Maybe we need a world wide riot
The voice of reason has remained quite for so long
And though that's why I wrote this song
I fear it won't be heard enough
To cause any more good than harm
Sometimes I just wish that I were stupid
So maybe then I'd see a point to it all
And my frustration would go away
Because I'd have nothing wise to say
To all the mass of idiots
Who just ignore it anyway
They look at me like I'm the one who's crazy
When intellectually they've all grown so fat and lazy
That they're too glad to see
The burden of thought has been relieved
The mind control is self-induced
For those who love being deceived
So smile and take your medication
I think we'll need some strong sedation to get by
When there seems no use to try
To find a real cure
Our future's so unsure
And you've just now noticed we've got problems
[repeat last line through fade out]
