In Memory Of The Angel We Lost

Today (29th May 2025) marks the 28th anniversary of Jeff Buckley's tragic death at just 30 years old. In 1997 we lost a poor soul that thought he would never outgrow his absent father's shadow. Today his name is much more resounding. At the time of his death, he was finishing up the release, of what was planned to be his second studio album, "My Sweetheart The Drunk". The album had to be released post-mortem, under the name "Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk", with the addition of demos he worked on at the time of recording. At the start of his solo career, he moved to New York City where he would frequently perform at Sin-e. His repertoire consisted of covers from artist he grew up listening to, but also the debut of original works like "Mojo Pin", "Grace", "Eternal Life", "Last Goodbye" (previously titled "Unforgiven") and "Lover, You Should've Come Over". At the time of its release, the studio album "Grace", got mixed reviews and performed under the label's expectations. However, after his death, it was praised by musicians like David Bowie and Bob Dylan and later reached platinum in the US. Now, his voice touched millions of souls, just as lost and hurt as his, and inspired just as many. I might've not been alive during his days, but the music, concerts and interviews give me a window into his wonderful soul. He sadly passed away not knowing he is loved and remembered by millions. Rest in peace Jeff Buckley.
