some additional context: i am an artist and commissions make up a decent chunk of my income. ive had people stop commissioning me to use ai instead. i have plenty of firsthand experience with this topic
ai isnt a threat to artists for the same reason mass produced tableware isn’t a threat to ceramicists. people will continue to create because humans have an innate need to create. humans have been sculpting since they discovered clay and painting since they discovered pigment. art has never been profitable for the vast majority of people, but its not like that stops people from creating. art will be dead when our species goes extinct

I like AI because I hate artists. Every artist "community" I've ever interacted with was just sycophancy and shilling - no more, no less. It's all either jackasses begging for commission money or cultivating a cult of personality so that they can tear down other cults on twitter in hopes of absorbing their following. Not to mention it was "artists" who were one of the main driving factor behind the pornographication of the internet. I've often had a sensible chuckle at the people who draw flavor of the month characters from shows / movies / games that they didn't make with asses the size of watermelons screeching about intellectual property rights and copyright law when their art style gets scraped by a calculator. That calculator never complains by the way, and their always on time.
yeah online art communities are a complete cesspool. these people are genuinely braindead from how much their little online echo chamber has consumed their entire life and worldview. dont get me wrong - i love to draw a little cringe from time to time, but i understand that its just some shit i do for fun with very little real artistic value imo.
i personally dont hate ai but i also dont like it, i think its just something people are going to have to get used to because its not going anywhere. throwing a fit over how ai is bad and people shouldnt use it isnt going to change that its here to stay
