Living with a beige millennial mom is SO HARD

Like she’s so minimalistic, classy modern stuff and all that, and she told me we would redocidate my room because uts a huge mess, 20€ thrifted desk that used to be my sister’s,I only got it because my mom bought her another one, not saying that it’s bad per se, but the drawer is falling, there’s a hole I accidentally made and it’s way too small for my monitor and school stuff to fit

My bed leg is broken and we can’t even repair it because you’re supposed to put on the nail but the hole for it is mushed and destroyed, two of my cousins pissed on my mattress while they were staying over and my dresser is too small, falling apart and the drawers don’t close anymore, anyway

I’m obviously looking for new furniture but I’m more into mcbling, 2000’s stuff, I hate white beige modern hells, minimalism AND IKEA (not actually the brand but the fact that everyone buys their furniture there so all of their furniture is white)

Like they’re furniture is like a blank canvas you’re supposed to make it yours and personalize it or idk, but everyone just leaves it like that, like it’s their choice, but like, I went on YouTube to search for room makeover: EVERY. SINGLE. VIDEO. HAD THE SAME WHITE OL BLAND WHITE FURNITURE AND THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THEIR FACES, NOT EVEN THEIR CLOTHES WERE DIFFERENT

WHY ARE WE TURNING INTO CLONES?!

Anyway I’m diving away from the subject

I’m searching for furniture and obviously it’s old looking, kitsch, trashy and all, like the desk I want is a banjaran desk, and like anything that is from back in my day, it’s not all the same and has different extensions, so I show it to my mom to help me choose because there’s so many things and I’m very indecisive, and she goes like “meh, I don’t like it”, and then she proceed to show me either some, steel, wood style contemporary desk, or those white bland IKEA desks….I DONT WANT IT LEAVE ME ALONE >:(

My favorite way to do stuff like this is making mood boards. There’s a video by benjiplants on YouTube that has a really good example of the mood board he made for decorating the house he’s moving into. There is a tiny amount of high quality ikea furniture and expensive other things but it’s a great example of an eclectic space that is still neat

Yeah, something you gotta understand is that a significant amount of women move as a hivemind - there's no thought behind their actions, it's purely a consensus-based decision making. That's why women are more susceptible to peer pressure than men. The real question you should be asking is "Who was the first person to start this minimalist bullshit?" - because then you could trace the spread of the contagion. This is also why women love "safe" decorations that are just words in weird fonts on a canvas, mass produced by any number of either machines or slaves in some far flung, East Asian, shithole. Anytime my mom tries getting onto me about something I know she has an objectively wrong opinion on I just tell her no.
