I Just Finished Dragon Ball Daima SPOILERS (First Impressions)

So I just finished watching Dragon Ball Daima for the first time, I guess the acronym would be DBD like a candy XD.

THought I would give my initial thoughts on the show. This is NOT going to be spoiler free

Before I say anything, I watched the show on Netflix, so I had to watch it in japanese. I usally perfer the English dub, but I had no choice because I'm not paying for crunchy runchy rolly. Anyways this show is great.

As a final send off before Akria Toriyama's passing, it feels like a great blend for old and new fans to enjoy. The whole gimmick of everyone turning into kids at first seems redundent, but not only we see new kid versions of characters we only see as adults, but the writers put more thought into how these people would fight like this, like Goku going back to get the power pole before the adventure.

One thing that kind of sucks is that most already established characters are kind of thrown out the window, besides Vegeta, Piccolo, Bulma, and Supreme Kai, they just get either a cameo at the beginning, and a little picture during the credits (spoilers I guess but its not really THAT big) Gohan not appearing in the story what so ever is really werid considering he helped beat Majin Buu, he doesn't even appear, Goku just states, "Gohan's been distant" and that's it, he could be dead for all that we care.

Akira still gives loads of fanservicey stuff and homages throughout the story. Like we get the explaination on how Buu was created, and we get to witness to Majins being made from Sabanmen seeds, all the way back from the sayan saga. This story is mostly original stuff though as we go through the three demon worlds to get three dragon balls. It expands upon the world of dragon ball in an interesting way, and the story keeps building as our heroes decend closer to the first world.

Personally, the first part is a little bit dry (pun), but once Goku beats the first tamagami, that's when the story gets really good. However the peak is definetly the last 5 episodes with the battle with Gomah. Gomah is kind of whatever as a villian, but the idea of having a emperior peliof demounour in the first part of the series, before he becomes a signficant threat is a great one.

Its hard not to mention the ultimate fan service in Akira basically confirming that super saiyan 4 is cannon (kind of). During the entirety of the final battle with the brilliant animation and the transformations one by one, I was smiling the whole time! It was incredible! And they kept adding twist after twist, it kept the battle engageing and it felt like peak dragon ball at moments.

Overall, I think daima is a fun spinoff, not the best, however you can't deny this is a good way to go out as a creator as one of the most popular series in the world. RIP Akira Toriyama

For me, I still need to watch Super and GT (ugh). I should probably check out the movies sometime too huh?
