Capitola, Warsaw & Albuquerque

I remember middle school fondly. Sure, a few crappy teachers here and there, but it was a fun time. It's where I learned how to play the drums. However, what I will miss dearly, along with my friendships and the memories there, was my music taste then.

It may sound weird, but it was back when I kind of cared about electronic music as a whole. There was a lot of techno and Aphex Twin that shaped my music taste today. But, one artist whom I find chief among them all was PilotRedSun.

He started off as Bittertooth, and I don't find his Bittertooth stuff very interesting. A lot of intense D&B, which is fine, but it's not unique. He did, however produce one song that stood out. Capitola was one of his later works as he began phasing out of the Bittertooth alias and started working on animations and music as PilotRedSun.

Capitola's blend of nostalgic synths and less aggressive D&B beats paved the way for what is Pilot's music now. The synths blend together into a beautiful smoothie of synth rythms. The rumbling bass and the drums produced a dance-worthy beat. It isnt his best song of all, but it's his best out of the Bittertooth alias.

Pilot soon started producing music as PilotRedSun, i think maybe around 2016 or 2017. On top of making surreal animations, he produced his first album, "Achievement". While, it is a great album, I think Warsaw stood out the most. The fast-paced beginning of the harpsichord blending into a fast-paced drum beat, makes your head bop. Then, you're sucked in by the building synths. The bass kicks in, another synth. You're hyped, but most of all, you're reminiscent.

That's the thing I associate with this song. The past. Back then, I thought of the future, what my life might be. How I'd be listening to this music in the future. How right I was, that I would be listening to PRS to this day, but not for the reasons 7th grade me thought.

I learned the drums for the song, and I still can play it by muscle memory if I hear the song.

Back then, though, I had a friend group online, and this might sound stupid, but they were great friends. Through out middle school, my 7th and 8th grade years, these friends were very fun to hang out with. Very entertaining people. It's how I got into ENA, before all of the Dream BBQ stuff.

For some odd reason, one of the friends just cut me off for no reason. I dug, and dug, and I found out he just didn't like me, despite what our friendship had done. It's more saddening, I guess, because I had made a poster for the guy, and sent it to him. But, it was more from another friend group that I had been hanging out with, that he disapproved of. Despite me, trying to remain neutral, I got caught in the cross fire.

But, I also see Pilot's music as a way to move on. Some of his music may give feelings of nostalgic melancholy, but his newer songs, like Climb Imba gives me feelings of a future, bright and waiting for me. So, staying in the pass won't allow me to head towards the future, but it sure will help me not make the mistakes, I guess.

I don't know what I'm talking about anymore, rambling I guess, so I'll cut it off here before I ramble any further.
