my thoughts about emo fashion

today i wanna talk about emo fashion. alot of the time the emo subcultures fashion is flanderized into a couple stereotypes: skinny jeans,band tees,swoopy haircuts,studded acessories,etc. while this is definately the case for alot of modern emos alot of the time the OG emos wouldnt wear those types of clothes. youll see it in bands like the used and fall out boy they often wore clothing that "normal" people would wear. why is this? well emo as a subculture evolved from the hardcore punk scene of the 80s and this genre of punk rejected the fashion norms of the british scene. instead of gaudy  peircings dye jobs and tattered clothing the hardcore scene opted for a more casual way of dress so their look wouldnt be the focus of their movement. the emo scene evolved from this with bands like rites of spring and various bands by ian mckay lol XD. although the bands would reject (cause theres nothing more punk than rejecting something) this emo label it would stick and it would spawn a new generation of emotion focused punk music. these emo/punk bands would eventually come to the mainstream with jimmy eat worlds album "bleed american" and with this jolt into stardom emo musics fashion would be brought along with this and what may that fashion be? casual wear. emos fashion would continue to mirror the casual wear of the day and in the early 2000s the fashions were alot more loose fitting so often times the og emo scene would wear baggier looser fitting clothing. while you see examples of skinny jeans and slimmer cuts towards the mid to late 2000s that would reflect the general trends towards skinnier fits in the 2000s. the 2010s brought with it a whole new scene: metalcore and "scene"  which focused on skinnier silhouettes.  theese movements and fashion often were lumped in with emo fashion due to the genres of music dealing with similar subject matter along with having similar listener bases. this began the merging and confusion between the genres fashions.  i hope this has been informative and you enjoyed my ramblings. feel free to comment your thoughts and fact check me in the comments lol
