Hey guys I’m thinking about opening commissions and i was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions :P here’s something i just drew today, my partner convinced me to do furry art cause apparently it pays well lol. Also my partner and gacha life helped in the design process lol. What do you guys think is a good price range? And what are some safe payment methods? I’d also give the option of sketch, lineart, coloured, rendered so the price would change for that

Happy about all tips!!!

Nice art! I do commissions IRL (hoping to open them online soon) so uhm, let me see if I can give you any advice:
- Look at other artists' commission pages and see how they format their prices and types — Most people (specially those who do character-focused art) have generally headshot/halfbody/fullbody type commissions, and you can separe those further into clean sketches / lineart / finished work. A nice looking comm page will also attract potential clients :p
- Keep a list of your prices for each type of commission you do, trust me, it'll save you a lot of headaches.
- I'd say start with small stuff, like, don't go doing fullbody comms right away. Start with icons, small stuff, then open more options to clients once you feel steady. A good price range for sketched work would be from 5$ - 10$ imo, but you're free to modify that as you will. For rendered work I think a proper range would be from 10(or 20)$ - 60(or all the way up to 100)$, but that'll depend, again, on how much you value your work, and also how popular you are. Very well established furry artists can get 200$ on a lined headshot commission, you get me?
- Don't be afraid to raise the price of your art if you find it to be of a higher value than you first thought of; remember that pricing should consider how much effort and time is spent on each work. (e.g. you wouldn't price a fullbody rendered artwork at 5$, would you?)
- You can search other good payment methods online but what I see the most is PayPal. I'm pretty sure you can set up an account with an alias too (which, PLEASE DO THAT. Internet safety 101: never give your name to strangers and all that), which is great. I've also been seeing Vgen a lot, which is a platform aimed for artists to publish their work. If you make an account there and do the proper steps to get verified, it can be a very good place to do comms through!
- Try and implement a slot schedule BEFORE you even start commissions. Helps you not get swamped with a shit ton of things at once + a waitlist keeps future clients close. Maybe a KANBAN board, maybe just a written list on a paper, just keep track of things. Keep track of what you're sketching, who you're coloring, and who has and hasn't paid you yet. Organization is also key to lessening future headaches. Also, ask/send payment receipts ALWAYS.
Some of these are from experience, others are from other artist's experiences, but yk how it is. Some things you gotta learn by doing. Best of luck with comms!
Oh and, a last addendum, your art is lovely! The way you drew the eye reminded me a bit of night in the woods a bit :D
