can somebody explain the science behind the fact that whenever I draw something, anything really, and decide to add line art instead of cleaning up the sketch and compare it at the end, the sketch always turns out better/more fitting for the character/more proportional? a whole hour wasted...

This isn't always the case for everyone but for me it's because when I do the actual lineart, the sketch is too visible and our eyes will blur it together (when on digital). I often lower the opacity REALLY low so you can see the different. Hope that helps, idk.

I don't have a scientific answer, but from what I've heard from other artists is that 1. sketches inherently have more energy than lineart 2. sketch lines are more guestimates than lineart, meaning that sketches leave more room for error than lineart, being as drawing lineart makes absolute decisions of what goes where and leaves less room for the brain to fill in the details. I think your lineart is very nice though! It's plenty energetic and shapey.
