finding friends irl

So i barely have a social life and i want to fix that. The thing is i want to meet other alt people but i don't know where to start. my local mall is so dead. Ive thought about going to a frat partys with my older brothers, but frats just seem so boring and because of my size and the way im shaped + other experiences, im worried id just be drugged and SAed. Im trying to look for local music shows but i just cant find the underground stuff. WHERE ARE ALL THE COOL PEOPLE!????
