my favorite book of all time

hi guyz! 

I haven´t really done much this week except stay at home, celebrate my bfs most important exams being over by staying in, studying, writing another fuck ass exam and now we just got milk tea boba... which are all not very interesting. SO instead of writing a normal life update blog, I´ll be writing about something random that i´m obsessed with instead! Bc i like yapping about my favorite things and then matching the blog layout to the theme :P It´s just really fun what can i say :3 so like you should try doing this too!

Anyway let´s start the info dump now: My favorite book of all time is called Neversuch House. And its sequel lolz. You may have seen it mentioned on my profile or if you´re my close friend i´ve probably already talked about it a million times and tried to convince you to read it yourself... I need ppl to talk this about okay (◞‸◟,) I´m making my bf read it rn but he´s a slow reader and still on the second book ... Unfortunately i´ve never met anyone at all who has read the book... There are only a handful of reviews i could find on the internet and barely anything on the author at all. I bought the book in my home country when i was around 8-9 and read it and have been obsessed with it since. Which means it is a children´s book and a pretty short read for adults. But it has a better plot than most young adult books i´ve read. Nothing has quite the vibe i yearn for after reading this. I have the original copy i bought and an english version that i had to buy from amazon bc the 6 story bookstore in my city wasn´t even able to order it... I think there is a french copy too but those are the only versions i know of. I´ve read both at least 20 times by now and annotated each of the copies. They´ve been so used they´re starting to fall apart a bit... Oh and i´ve even tried to write a continuation fanfic type thing w an oc i made... I know, i´m slightly obsessed. I´ve scoured the internet looking for info on this book but there´s such little information... Nothing on the author, who btw is named Elliot Skell, no other books published from them or any interviews, literally fucking nothing. Even in the book itself there is no info other than very basic publishing info. Oh and there is a dedication that says smth like "in memory of Eveline Hartslip Codd whose early passing remains a mystery" and then approximately the same but with the name "Everard Waldo Kidd" for the second book.

Now to the plot! The story follows the main character Omnia Halibut who´s a curious little girl trying to figure out a murder mystery while having the most odd living situation ever. But before the main story starts we learn about how her world came to place. Long ago some captain and his servant arrive at a little town called Pettifog and buy a bunch of land. They hire everyone in the town to build a giant, town sized house with a giant wall around it. He hires servants, marries, has kids and keeps moving ppl into his estate until he builds a small society separate from the outside world and a giant family, the Halibuts. This is the world Omnia lives in. They have their own weird  traditions like how they eat, their education system and even how they have funerals. They live rich and without working, able to do whatever they want basically and are tended to by all their servants. Also they all have hyper-fixations they dedicate their lives to. Omnia´s brother is obsessed w hair gel for example.

The House has a very odd government system too. Also everyone has weird names lol. Overall life in Neversuch House is WEIRD and no one is allowed outside the giant wall which is what creates conflict and plot in the books. So as more ppl keep dying/getting murdered and Omnia is caught in the middle of everything. 

I won´t say much more to not spoil but i hope it sounds interesting enough that at least maybe one person reads this book after reading this blog :3

Oh and i have to add that my absolute favorite part of the book is its world building. The author describes the House in such a simple but beautiful way. It´s whats kept me going back and forth, analyzing every word over an over again. I´ve marked my favorite passages for descriptions of buildings, people or other general stuff. Yes, i am an english literature nerd, this is my passion and i hope to properly study it one day BUT ANYwAY. 

I´ve already taken a break, a 3 hour nap, eaten dinner and watched AT with my bf since i first started writing this and i wanna make popcorn now sooo...Enough writing. It took me ages to edit the layout i found to look exactly how i wanted as well and im getting tired of typing stuff with my long baddie nails ; (◞‸◟)
