i rant about undertale for probably too long

okay so basically ive planned on doing this for a while now but i didnt know hwen i would. ive loved undertale for a long time and know way too much about this game so im gonna try and write down pretty much as much as i can remember (which will take a long time)

i wouldnt be too surprised if iaccidentally repeat a lot of info but if ur reading this whole blog u probably ? are crazy idk who would read this whole thing no offense

if theres any tws ill name them as it goes and ill put it in white text so if theres a chunk u cant read after a tw u need to highlight it to see it

also mb if i fuck up any of the lore its been a while since ive played it and im not looking up too much of it cuz thatd take far too long

im posting this cuz i think itd be funny not cuz i actualy expect literally anyone to read this so for that reason i probably wont post it until its a lot longer, but i started writing this (like right now) at 5/22/2025 (M/D/Y obviously sorry im american ik d/m/y makes mre sense)

anyway time to actually yap ab undertale

prologue!!

so the game starts . well technincally befre it starts. theres a little story bit showing a war between monsters and humans. the monsters lose and get like a magic spell put onto them to keep them underground in the appropiately named area "underground". thers various parts in the nunderground such as snowdin, hotlands, ruins ect  but the area as a whole is the underground. later we find out that there would need to be the power of 7 human souls to break the barrier and i think one human and monster soul to cross (not break) between the underground and surface and all monster souls only equate to the power of around 1 human soul so uh that isntgonna work

now we see a small child (later discovered to be named chara) in 201X trying to climb the mountain and falling into the underground. chara is the first child to fall into the underground. the prince (asriel) finds them and takes them into the king and queen (asgore and toriels) like house or smth and they raise the child as their own. at some pointr chara eats a butterscotch pie that was poisoned with buttercups and falls ill, and wants to see golden flowers in their home village but obviously nobody can help with that cuz they cant cross the barrier. chara dies and asriel absorbs their soul and they boty conrol his body and go up to the surface together and carry their corpse to their village, but the humans attack them. chara wants to kill the humans but asriel doesnt and asriel overrides what chara wants to do apparently so they both die (dumbasses smh) charas  body gets left in a coffin in new home and monsters turn into dust when they die so asriel kinda just does that i guess

wuld u believe me if i said the game didnt even fucking start yet and that was just optional prologue and story bits u learn later. cuz yeah the game hasnt even started. god toby fox i love you this game is so in-depth

pacifist!

ok so now u play as a different human child named frisk who also falls into the underground and u see a little flower named flowey (yea dumbass name we know) who says he'll help u but uh never trust flowers cuz his ass tries to murder u by saying that bullets r healing to get u to run into them. thers a funny bit where if u keep dodging it anyway tho the music slow and hell slowly get mroe and more mad (eventually remarking "are you braindead??") but eventually covering u in bullets until nearlydead anyway. toriel finds u tho (love u girl) and takes u to her house. she teaches u how to fight and do various puzzles n its rlly cute and then she leaves for a little so u wander by urself. so im gonna follow the true pacifist (good ending) first and at the end ill recap the genocide and neutral routes. so if u dont kill anything (pacifist bviously) nothing rlly important ghappens at this part but when she gets back u have to keep asking her when youll get to leave and she keeps trying to distract u but if u insist enough shell run down to the exit of the house and block it so ucant leave without fighting her. she wont kill u and its very very hard to GET her to kill u but if she does a photo appears for a frame of her covering her mouth and looking scared like cuz she didnt mean to kill u. but more likely u just spare her and she says that she was just worried because "they" will try and kill u (playing the pronoun game huh toriel) but she lets u leave and hugs u.

so now ur in snowdin and (also if u look in the bushes theres a camera which is great freshadowing ofr alter, also in other spots but im just mentioning this one) thers a fucker following u and breaking the twigs behind u but once u get far enough away he tries to give u a handshake but he has a whoopie cushion in his hands. yep its sans undertale !!! were talking about sans undetale now!!!!!!! the skeleton guy!!! so he yaps a lot and basically says that his brother papyrus (fucking love u papyrus) rlly wants to capture a human but hes stupid so u should just try and like pretend for his sake and then escape. u hide behind an oddly shaped lamp (its rlly funny its just literally the shape of ur characters sprite exactly 😭)  and later run int ohim. he desnt try and kill u but whenever u almost die he takes u to this little fenced in area but the fence posts r so far apart u can just walk right through. u can eiher flirt with ihm (flirting in this game doesnt actually lead to weird shit its just little gags later on), insult him (dont hes too nice.) or just spare him enough times he just lets u go. u can now either go on a date/hangout with him in his house or just leave and theres too much content for me to  explain every little side thing u can do this in game for rn so im just gonna mention what happens if u leave

now ur in waterfall woohoo!! and theres a lesbian fish in knight armour trying to kill u!! gulp yea theres undyne trying to kill u now. but shes cool i love her. u try to run for a while (leading in a cool bit of dodfing u have to do outside of the games regular fighting mechanics) but she finds u eventually. u fight blahblah and she chases u to hotland (next area!!) she collapses cuz its too freaking hot and u gotta like pour a glass of water on her to cool her odwn (u have to do this for true pacifist fun fact)

ok so now u gotta go to alphys' lab the oryal scientist. god i love you alphys ik ur morally gray and a little annoying but i love u nonetheless. anyway u go in there and u see a giant screen projecting where u r (this is where the camera foreshadowing comes from, she was watching u) and then meet alphys, and a robot named mettaton comes in. oh mettaton i love you. my favorite kinda transgender robot drag queen ever. anyway he makes u do a quiz show and alphys trys to help u cheat by spelling out the correct answers with her hands which mettaton realises. alphys upgrades ur phone with like texting n the equivalent of internet i guess, also u can fucking fly with a jetpack?? but only in one part of the game os its pretty irrelevant. anyway alphys guides u trhough hotland and only updates her status around am illion times, stopping u every single time. get what i mean by annoying? girl ily but i dont need to know about ur review of mew mew kissy cutie 2. theres 2 gay royal gaurds u gotta fight and then u fight mettaton, hes trying to get his reviews higher which u can do by interacting in the ACT menu in the fighting screen . after ur done w mettaton u move to new home (the capital of the underground)

this area is ruled by asgore dreemur (well the whole underground is) the king which u might remember from earlier. and its sad. cuz u have to kill him in oredr to pass the barrier. before u go tho u have to talk to sans (which is where the sans fight starts during geno but we arent doing that rn) and he judges u but he thinks ur ok cuz u havent killed anyone. u meet asgore and hes a fucking sweetheart pretty much. hes so kind and sweet and its sad. he killed 6 human children tho so its a little easier knowing that i guess. he brings u over to barrier and starts the fight

during the fight with him he removes the mercy button from ur bar (not because he doesnt want u to have mercy but he because he doesnt want HIMSELF to have mercy UGH) if u eat the pie toriel gave u earlier his defense and attack go down (poor dude. he just misses his ex wife.) so u have to fight him tho cuz mercy isnt an option. u can finish him off or spare him when hes at rlly low health (doesnt matter which one for true pacifist cuz this part of the game resets in a little bit) but flowey kindataunts u if u kill him and kills him himself if u dont kill him so he dies regardless. since u have a monster soul now too u cross over the barrier and the game resets to the last savepoint (so right before the asgore fight)

ok but uh now flowey has the 6 human souls and he looks scary and u have to fight him. its omega flowey / photoshop flowey time woohoo!!! this fight is so fucking sick and the music for it is breakcore so if u like breakcore id recommend that (i recommend this whole fucking soundtrauck tho toby fox is so goated). there r aspects about all the human souls u see within the fight and its a rllywell done fight overall.

true pacifist!!

so that was just pacifist, now were at true pacifist. for this a few things need to have been done, such as watering undyne, u gotta go on a little date thing with alphys and set her and undyne up, and u gotta go cook with undyne and papyrus and stuff but im gonna skip to the more interesting parts

ok so u gotta go to alphys lab now and this is where her character gets revealed to be way more morally gray. so u gotta go down the elevator and u find a lab filled with these amalgamations of other dead monsters (thas what theyre literaly called btw) because turns out alphys said she thought she could bring them back to life with determination but they just fucking melted. and shes too scared/embarraseed to admit it yet. so there r just melted together sentient corpses.  this games E10+ btw . anyway ur back in new home!!

so all the monsters come together in new home to just like chill or smth i forgot but papyruses dumbass may have accidentally only invited htme there cuz flowey told him to. yk the crazy flower tht tries to klil people. yea. so he absorbs their souls nad the 6 human souls and now hes the god of hyperdeath. yea one human child vs fucking god of hyperdeath is my favorite mr beast video

oh also forgot to mention flowey is fucking asriel. yea. so alphys injected a flower with determination (dt) a while ago and asriels dust was on it so now hes an evil flower i guess

so nw u gotta go thru and save all ur friends and it says "but theres still one more person to save" or smth and guess who! asriel! im gonna cry now omg this game is so sad i forgot about that. anyway asriel turns into normal small child asriel now and hugs u and apologises and uses the power of the human souls and monsters to break the barrier and then let them go, but without hteir souls hes gonna turn back into flowey so he apologises, smth about not having a soul makes u evil i guess who wouldve known

so now u can go to the surface with ur friends! papyrus doesnt know what the usn is and toriel asks if u wanna stay with her now (its ur choice yes or no)

okay so true pacifist is done pretty much! had to skim over afucking lot because this game is just that detailed but yeah. ill add some extra fun facts + how geno ending works!

genocide route!!!

okay so in genocide u have to kill all of them (unsurprising) u haveto kill EVERY monster that spawns tho including the random ones that arent lore important. at first its like 30 but then the save points start counting down in red text however many u have left. toriel dies and its sad. papyrus dies and its sad and sans is pissed. u can see how this is going. there r 2 major boss fights in this one: undyne (undyne the undying) and sans (i think u know about that one.)

fun fact also: sans, flowey iirc, and asgore mistake u for being a genuine monster instead of a human in this route, i thikn thats kinda to just show how evil u are that they assume u arnet even human at that point (sans says to pretend acting like a human with papyrus instead of pretending to let him capture u)

when u try and kill undyne she gets so determined she melts like the amalgams .  and then yk more boss fights more threats. alphys evacuates some of the other monsters but doesnt show up (its vry implied that (tw suicide) she ends her own life if u kill undyne and/or mettaton iirc, although this is never confirmed (the game is also literally E10 tho so i doubt toby fox woud be able to outright say that)) but blahblah u kill more innocent monsters cuz ur a horrible person i guess (jkjk), some more dialoge changes in red font, nd end up finding sans. this part is so well known but ill still go over it. he judges ur soul  and says ur gonna have a bad time or whatever and trys to fight u bassically, he has only one health but hell dodge all ur attacks. for thefirst like 10 times u die hell count all thetimes but by the last one he just acknowledges its been a lot of times (usually it takes a hell of a lot more than 10 too)

he drops some vague dialouge about wanting to go "back" but "the surface doesnt seem all that interesting anymore either" implying hes from somewhere (several other people including me assume he means deltarune (a whole other can of worms))but when u kill him he bleeds which is very confusing but a lotof people believe it to be iether ketchup (sans lvoes ketchup) or bonemarrow or smth. he says smth about papyrus which is rlly rlly sad and then fucking dies.

asgore gets almost murdered in one hit, but flowey finished the final blow and begs you not to kill him, but you do. you hit him with eight hits. (you arent in control of the actions at this point, it does this automatically when you press any button.) chara appears (u forgot abou them didnt u silly!!) and trys t speak to the player (seems like it runs in the family a little, based on the fact that flowey does this too at different points) and asks if you want to erase this world or not. if u choose erase it does just that, and if u pick not to chara says "since when were you the one in control" and does it anyway. undertale and deltarune talk a lot about the players control over the main character, being a main element of both games (although way more prominent in deltarune like within the lore, although undertale is literlly ABOUT whether u give mercy or not) 

fun fact! after genocide u cannot get a true pacifist ending anymore! well itll be different anyway, even if u delete the game and redownload it (assuming ur using steam atleast, idk about other options). if ur on console this only goes away if u literally delete the games save fie outside of the game itself. the happy endings are a little corrupted, making it seem a lot less like a happy ending and a lot more guilt filled, considering all the monsters are crossed out.

ok now that im done w geno and pacifist im just gonna add random fun facts. this has been an hour and a half straight of me just writing shit down im so locked in. 

random facts!

okay. so. if u already kpnow about ndertale u might be ocnfused that gaster isnt mentioned at all, but fun fact hes barely canon and the sprite we associate with him is just labeled mystery man technically so although it is so SO implied its him we dontacually KNOW

speaking of gaster, hes only triggered by FUN events, a random number 1-100 thatll effect how ur game works in minor ways. u might get a prank phone call, or see some peope who claim to know something about the old royal scientist who fell into his own creation and got scattered across time itself or smth idk who that could possibly be 🤔🤔🤔

one of the amalgamations is another random monsters mom. the monster talks about wishing his dad was supportive of his comedy career and his mom is in the true lab, all melty and it just says "its so cold"

flowey has also reset before! hes killed every monster in the underground countless times and resets it. he also remembers the resets! if u kill anyone/everyone in the ruins and then reset, hell call u out for it (u still can continue with the route but still)

if u eat a spider donut during muffets fight in the ruins u can skip it entirely

theres a song in the soundtrack called "song that might play when you fight sans" . it is not in the game and does NOT play when u fight sans (megalovania does)

pope francis owned a steam copy of undertale (rip)

despite the fact frisk never has visible dialogue, sometimes its implied they speak

this game is very queer.  frisk and chara r nonbinary, all ghosts r genderless, mettaton was a ghost but is now a dude so hes like nonbinary to male or something, undyne and alphys r a lesbian fish looking monster and bi/pan dinosaur looking monster so thats cool. 

toby fox's other game, deltarune, has the same characters as undertale for the most part, just in a different setting.

toby fox reuses music a lot by changing the pitch, speed ect of various music bits, which can help make it all feel more connected (atleast to me, asriels theme plays like the whole game just remixed lol)

theres a character named jerry and nobody fucking likes ihm. like canonically nobody likes him, the fandom isnt rlly a fan of him, like NOBODY FUCKING LIKES HIM 😭😭😭
