this movie is something pretty special. it might sound basic to say that it's one of my favorite 2000's movies ever, but i think it might be. the casting is just perfect, the soundtrack is fully endowed in the exact emotions the visuals and writing portray, and perfectly matches the teenage high schooler vibe that a lot of movies try and convey. juno does this perfectly though.
juno is a 16 year old girl who is impregnated by her best friend paulie bleeker. juno doesn't want to raise the baby herself, for obvious reasons, and decides to give the baby to a family she sees in the paper. vanessa and mark loring seem like the perfect couple for juno's little bundle of "joy". not everything is perfect though, as mark is coming to the realization that he may not be ready, and may not love vanessa like he thought. as juno and paulie begin their disastrous wheel of emotions towards each other after bleeker asked another girl to the prom, vanessa and mark follow suit. they divorce, and it seems like nothing could go more wrong. however, juno and vanessa continue their deal with the baby. as juno sees what is happening to the loring's, and after a talk with her dad, she realizes she loves bleeker, and admits it to him. honestly from there, everyone lives happily ever. not in the most orthodox way, but everything seems to fit in the right places.
there's a lot more i didn't touch on in that summary, because the movie has a good amount of moving pieces that you should experience for yourself. there are many deeply earnest themes explored in the story of juno macguff. each one is written quite specially aswell. i really liked this movie, and i wish more modern movies had the same kind of grounded and genuine feeling to them. i feel like i could be a part of their world, like this is something that could happen in my town. the characters' angst amongst a plethora of other teenage characteristics help this movie feel like it was ripped right out of the brain of an adult who lived their teenage years during that early 2000's era. it's genuine and relatable. i think films like this help me feel more like a kid, and show me how life can be if i step outside of the box a little more.
9/10. you can watch it on hulu for yourself <3
