Eighth Photodump of the Journey: Kayaking in an Abandoned Mine in Red River Gorge, Kentucky

After leaving Ohio and entering Kentucky, my family and I went to Red River Gorge to kayak in an abandoned mine! Don't worry, it was a guided tour, so we weren't just trespassing and putting ourselves in danger lol!

This particular mine was a limestone mine, and it was flooded because of the river and the springs that had seeped through the ceiling!

At the entrance of the mine was this odd statue:

Bro, are you good?

His eyes make him look like he is having a crisis lol!

Anyways, after awhile, we finally get into the mine. The view from inside is pretty cool!

We then walked a little bit and saw our clear bottom kayaks! They had fun colorful lights on them!

It was hard to take pictures due to the darkness and mist, but I think I got some that looked pretty neat as we went through!

This is one of the springs leaking down into the mine!

This is an actively collapsing part of the mine, and for some reason they put a giant spider statue there? Pretty interesting!

Oh! And there were also rainbow trout in the mine! They were added a long time ago for whatever reason, and they are now thriving in the mine, except that they are colorless and blind now. One of them we saw was estimated to be 15 pounds which is scary! And they like to jump, creating loud splashing noises in the dark which terrified us all!

This right here is a big speedy boi causing trouble for our tour guide!

It was a super fun tour, and I highly recommend! Something about just being in the water in the dark is both spooky and delightful!

Same here! While driving through the Red River Gorge area, I was pretty jealous of all the cool things they had! Plus the little town area was adorable! I really wanna go back!
