the book in question is Morrigan’s Cross by Nora Roberts
Its currently free as an audiobook on YOUTUBE I recommend you give it a listen bc its really good a we can yap about it together :)))
Here’s a short spoiler free summary ::
Vampire Queen Lilith is stirring up trouble in the current era ( 2006 ). The goddess Morrigan gathers 6 hero’s across time and worlds to fight her and her demon armies. There’s the Sourcer, the Lost, the Witch, the Scholar, the Shape-shifter, and the Warrior. If this doesn’t convince you, here’s a VIDEO that convinced me on YouTube.
Some tags that would go with this book are : Trilogy, romance, fantasy, Irish-Gaelic mythology, family drama, slow burn? More like “are we more powerful together or do we just wanna bang?”, vampires, no not like twilight vampires, baddies,
— beyond this point ima go into spoilers so … you’ve been warned —
What I liked about the book:
- Easy listen, keep me interested but i never felt lost
- Believable characters, sometimes I didn’t connect with them, prob bc this came out in 2006
- Semi diverse cast? Unfortunately, the only character of color dies, but attempts at it?
- Silly narrator, not a boring guy to listen too
- Good relationship, the main couple is sweet and loving, and they combat each other like a real couple would
- Lovable cast, every character is unique and brings something to the team, and im really hoping that the next books really expand on them
- Silly to draw ( art at end :) )
What I didnt like about the book:
- All white main circle? Yeah there was a Black Guy but he was killed pretty early on. Why cant any of the other characters be a person of color hm?
- the main villain as a woman lover, which i do love, but why cant the main crew have same-sex partners? ( but i also need to take into consideration the time this book came out and its general audience of cis het white women. So.. i give it some grace. )
- The main lady in this book sometimes flips like a switch between “IM A FEMINIST AND NO MAN CAN BRING ME DOWN” to “Aw sweet man baby, let me take care of you bc i am a woman and its in my nature.” I personally think that this is kinda just her character, a person who has strong moral beliefs of self worth with the sense to take care of others ( I know im like that sometimes )
- Men in this book sometimes make me want to rip out my hair but that’s like all men so … yea
- HOW CAN A MAN FROM THE 12th CENTRY SPEAK PERFECT ENGLISH RIGHT OUT THE BAT? I KNOW HES A WIZARD AND CAN PROB MAKE HIMSELF SPEAK IT BUT AT ONE POINT HE SPEAKS IRISH TO HIS BROTHER AND GOES BACK TO ENGLISH. WHAT.
- Ok after a google search maybe it was IMPOSSIBLE but it seams kinda unrealistic yk?
What Im hoping for in the next books:
- A good conclusive end to the story bc honestly i know books like these have a tendency to go haywire in the end
- More first couple content as long as the natural development of the other couples
- I know there’s gonna be good ending bc its not only a hero-centric fantasy but also a romance, but i do get lil worried
- Uh more character development from Larkin, the shapeshifter, i feel like other than being athletic we dont know at lot about him…
Only downside to listening to this book:
- my thoughts now sound like an Irish Man everyonce and a while ( this happened when i listened to another audio book, the authors voice got stuck in my head and would say my thoughts too me. )
Art:
Hoyt (left page, left drawing ) I personally thought has facial hair in the beginning, but apparently he doesn’t which is dumb.
Also, how old are these losers? I don’t know. I HOPE AND PRAY theyre of age.
King ( right page down in the corner ) is the black guy i mentioned, apparently he also has heterochromia.
What 20th century mother is naming their daughter Glenna. I get it shes a witch but GLENNA? Crazy ahhh name.
Hoyt and Cain ( i spelled it wrong by b ) are twin brothers, and Blair is the modern descendant of their sister. So i made them look similar. Mora and Larkin are cousins but apparently they look different? Idk ms Roberts doesn’t really like talking about appearances so i forget what they look like. Glenna is a red headed baddy with shoulder length hair, which i made into a shag cut bc I love shag cuts
Ok thats it
