23/05/2025 Before Playtesting party
Hello! I did some playtesting, here's how it went. My team and I decided to playtest a few individuals to see their thoughts on the game so far before the main playtesting party, just to get a general consensus of what modifications and iterations we should add. we managed to get a total of 3 people to playtest, as they playtested, 2 of the team members took notes oof their actions and verbalisations.
(what i learnt)
"" = verbalisations
** = actions
Playtester 1 notes:
- "" Asked if the controls were explained in game.
- ""Is there any like something will happen at a certain score?
- ** Had to explain different background and spawn rate increasing every 500 points
- "" The red dragon denotes that it’s faster was one of the effects. Asks faster what? Faster movement? Answer was yes. Said okay.
- ""
- ** had to explain there was different backgrounds and spawn rate increasing every 500 points
- ** was disappointed to see there was only one background change
- **surprised to find how slow the other dragons were compared to the fire dragon
Playtester 2 notes:
-**Tried to use the mouse to shoot
-**spammed to shoot and found that the water dragon was the most suited for this playstyle
-""Can i hold space or press it very fast?"
- ""Feels the game is too hard, difficult but not frustrating
- ""Chaotic, felt like a lot was going on
- **Wanted to try the faster dragon, felt the water was too slow
- **Unsure if score was based on just on distance or if enemies contributed to
-** Didn’t pay attention to ui, too focused on dodging enemies
-** Enjoys the art work
-** Finds game less enjoyable if substantial progress can’t be made fast enough
-** Would like to see if music could change as you progressed further
-** Thinks the dragon speed could be adjusted a little bit
-** Not complex, understood the goal of the game as not dyingI feel like it’s a little hard, this could be because I’m not a pro gamer.
-"" I feel like it’s a little hard, this could be because I’m not a pro gamer.
-"" Initially I wasn’t sure how much the stats would change, but once you try the different dragons, it’s a lot better.
- ""I found I was very focused on the enemies and I didn’t pay attention to the UI.
playtester 3 notes:
- ""The stats are very cool. Lovely smile for the green dragon
-""Struggled to figure out shooting the fire is space.
-""How do I win the game?
-""Wow. The sounds are cool. Curious about the wing power-up. Not sure what it did.
-""When I die and I see the score keep going it could be changed.
(key take aways)
For starters, there should be a controls screen on the start menu to inform the players on how to play. This is because it was difficult for players to pick up on the fact that they could shoot and its probably because there wasn't enough of an indication. Secondly, the dragons speed and shooting range should be tweaked for better accessibility for players. Finally, there should be more music added into the game.
These issues will be addressed before the playtesting party. Anyways, thats all for now, Kieran signing out!
