how performative are you?

who are you behind that rectangular screen? are you the curated reposts adorning your tiktok profile? are you the profile picture on your socials? do you give a fuck about politics or just adopt whatever point of view your peers are sharing to seem involved? do you pretend to like stuff online to fit in?

of course, i’m aware everyone’s different on socials, and i’d even say i’m an example of it! but i’m not talking personality/socializing wise. i’m talking about your actual essence. i don’t care if you’re super friendly on socials but awkward irl, that’s probably most people on the internet— but what about your mind? do you even think about what you consume and engage with, or is it all for the vibes? do you do your best to seem aesthetically pleasing even though you don’t give a shit?

do you just perform and lie, or do you mean what you say?

think about it sometime. do you actually like the stuff you like or is it just because you see others liking it? is there anything original about you??

i sound like i’m dissing but i genuinely mean well with those questions LMAO. sit down with yourself, your music taste, your favourite movie genre, your favourite fruit.. dissect yourself, and see what actually is you and what isn’t! 

stop hopping on micro-trends mindlessly! it’s fine to not like something everybody else does. and it’s also fine to love something nobody else likes. be yourself.

if you’re gonna be lying on the internet anyway, at least be truthful to your own self. you owe yourself that much.

experiment with everything, embrace the parts you’re ashamed of, burn whatever you were trying to mold into. you don’t have to fit into one “aesthetic” or do everything to act like some specific character and adopt everything about them. 

you’re meant to be complex and nuanced and original. you’re the only you in this world! so find what makes you, you. 

and no, cringe doesn’t exist. everyone is gonna judge you anyway, at least let them judge the real you!
