I'm trans and I've been going by "Damian" the last three or four years, still nothing legal
The thing is I don't know if i wanna keep it????? I feel it's a very big responsibility choosing how i wanna be called and worse, if I choose a stupid name and everyone knows I choose it the I'll be seen as the dumb who could't choose a better name, but also I can't choose a more complex or rare name because I'm MEXICAN like i can't go out and be called idk Viago bc i'm brown (and ugly but that's unimpornant) but every cool name I considered thru years its taken by some family member (Marco, Ivan, Isaac...) And it is also embarrassing to choose a name some else close to me has
Also I had choose Francisco to be call Fran but the guy I named myself after turned out to be a groomer and a bad person in general so I got sad about my name...
And I don't want a "common" name like Juan. No Juan.
I'd ask my irl friends or family but it's embarrassing asking them if I "Could look like my name is Robin" three times a week BUT NOW I'M AN ADULT and in no time I will need to get my dni and do goverment stuff and legal business and I'm lazy so i wanted to change my name legally before doing anything so then I wouldn't have to spend more money and time to change everything after
If i don't figure it out I will end up being being call something pretentious like that time I tryed to be "Helios" it's like, again I'm brown what the fuck am I doing calling myself Helios 💀💀

I can't give you any personal experience here, but I think you should choose whatever name feels right to you. Or maybe the name of a comfort character if you have one!!

I'm shy usually so I have problems just doing what I feel like instead of something acceptable, but maybe naming myself after some character could work

My irl friend got his name from a Character, and I got the name I use online (Sam) from a character!! I'm glad I could help!! (≧▽≦)

As a trans dude, I get being unsure about your name.
I personally think Damian is a cool name! But I also understand trying out other stuff too.
As for Fran/Francisco, I feel like if you truly liked that name for yourself and could separate it from the person you got it from, you could claim it as your own. I understand that the connection may be too strong, though.
As embarrassing as it may be to ask others for their opinions, think of it this way- you may feel embarrassed to ask about your name over and over, but whatever you end up with is gonna be your name for the rest of your life (unless you were to change it again). It doesn't hurt to get opinions from people who are close to you, and you can always preface that this is an important topic for you and that you'd like for them to give some thoughtful answers/suggestions.

It was very very strong unfortunately my connection with Fr*n. I spend nights listening to him to convince myself to live another day, so it was hard to use it irl (I still use it in internet some times)
I will try to talk to more irl people and stuff, my family has been supportive but it took some of them literal years to start calling me Damian so changing it feels like testing their patience
Anyways, I'm sure I'll figure it out, thank you :D!

I think I'll do, still in my country is normal to have two names and usually people use both so I'm thinking what goes with Damian...
