This week's Logbook Radio choice: 'Paperback Writer' by the Beatles (1966)

---

What a busy week it's been! I've performed numerous amazing gigs, done some major reflection on my college years (specifically the works of Oddpulse, whose 'Oddpulse Experience' live show turned a year old a few days ago!), and I've also been able to submit my final performance summative assessments, leaving me with just one more song-writing assignment to tackle!

Monday began with an Iddiekronie overdubbing session cum photoshoot. We prepared the final tracks for our demo E.P. titled 'Tomorrow's Press' and made our way over to the town centre to take some shots with our good friend and bandmate from Oddpulse, Nick! Some of my favourite shots from the day were taken in the Metronome foyer - we held copies of a local paper upside down and faced in the direction of the camera, resulting in some quite hilarious shots! Later on, I finally performed the gig with the Kaleidoscope Eyes, one of the best gigs I have ever taken part in! I really enjoyed playing the material and giving the audience an unforgettable night! When I got home, I did the final "mix" of the Iddiekronie demos and burned some CDs ready for the next day.

Tuesday was a typical day of hurrying up and waiting. As in, the soundchecks required us to be prompt and ready - prompt and ready we all were, waiting for our turn in the Metronome bar. They said 12:00pm, but were we called at 12:00pm? No, of course not. Sitting, waiting, sitting, waiting. At 1:00pm, we were informed that our soundcheck was delayed to 2:30pm. So that was a waste of time! Oh well, a good few rounds of classic solitaire got me through till we were finally sent onto the main stage to get laughed at by live tech events students. Once soundchecks were complete (and our tech riders reliably ignored by the tech team), we spent the rest of the morning sat around tables in various local spots until the doors of our backstage green room were opened, giving us a comfortable (ish) space to sit and relax until 6:30, the time for the doors to open. Our green room had a kettle, several packets of teabags and coffee, but no cups. So with a long 3 to 4 hour wait ahead of us, we marched over to our nearest Poundland and purchased two value packs of Lotus coffee biscuits and a wrapped-up stack of 10 small party cups made from paper; each emblazoned with illustrations of unicorns and rainbows. The products themselves were not taxing, but the journey back to Metronome, clutching these random amenities, us all dressed like newsreaders at a dodgy television station, certainly was. But following a lovely cup of decaffeinated coffee and a biscuit backstage, the two sets I played were absolutely brilliant. The set for Jess & Jess went rather well. I particularly enjoyed performing Parklife. And towards the end of the night, the set with the Iddiekronie made it one to remember! We played very well and put on a very unique and entertaining show according to those in the audience I spoke to following our 15-minute set. We had pioneered something truly different, proving that we were able to work to an established theme and actually make something brilliant together! What a night!

Wednesday took the form of a well-earned break. I didn't rise from my bed till the wee hours of the afternoon, and spent much of my time adhering to more therapeutic tasks such as editing the footage from the previous night's gig, as well as cutting up some edits of footage from the old Outposts and Celestine gigs, jobs I've been putting off for rather a long time. The regular weekly sections of the vlog were actually recorded on time this week, such as Last Week On The Logbook, and we actually had more comments than usual which was rather a pleasant surprise, one I am very grateful for! I reflected more on Monday's and Tuesday's gigs and found myself feeling proud for the first time in a while! It's a good feeling and I hope to experience it more in the near future. For the remainder of the day, I rested! And quite right too, because the next day was a busy one!

Thursday saw me entering the studio with the Kaleidoscope Eyes to record the original numbers from the set on Monday, and also take part in the mixing of some live material; all while hanging out with my friends George and Felix. I'm going to miss George and the rest of the gang when they go away to university, but I'll be looking forward to seeing Felix in Nottingham this September, as I have learned he will be staying on for university on the same course! Brilliant! Those guys have all been massive supporters of the Logbook and my own projects in general, so I'm really thankful to have had those people in my life, even if just for this barely-two-year chapter. I will remain in contact with them for as long as I can and help them with their own musical projects where possible. They're truly wonderful people and I love them to bits. And I'm talking about the whole gang, Sydney, Caleb, George, Felix, Kezia, Freya, the lot. Nothing but love!

Friday was mostly an editing day, and it was also unfortunately the day that our public votes almost made Israel win the Eurovision Song Contest which I am absolutely disgusted by. I'm disgusted by the politics of Eurovision anyway, but it still sucks to see it getting this extreme. I don't just dislike the music, funnily enough. Anyway, definitely a productive day! The weekend didn't see much more than the editing of a few more clips, the reflection on Oddpulse's one year anniversary of taking to the stage and a quick trip to Derby which didn't see much excitement (unless you count the purchase of a new leather-bound A5 notebook exciting). For the rest of this weekend, I've caught up on some old YouTubers that I watched as a kid and found myself also enjoying the last of the sunshine outside! I'm not sure what the weather will be looking like next week, so we'll just have to wait and see (Ellie and I are both hoping for more sunshine!).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the vlog this week and I'll talk to you again next time!

Thanks for reading! <3
