Book I’m reading

So we’re reading this book for English right? Guys I have no fucking clue what it’s about and I’m more than half way in. 

The MCs brother gets out of prison and he’s with this guy and they’re like gay for each other or something idk they’re weird and she has a bad feeling about the guy and then she witnesses them bullying this guy in a black hole?? And she’s having flashbacks about her EX cheating on her or something and he brother murdered someone but this other guy got him out.

There’s also a subplot where she sees her mom speaking to her in random people and I was reading reviews and apparently this goes no where.

Like it’s just confusing and written really weirdly and formatted strangely and it doesn’t look edited properly and I’m just so very confused rn.
