if you know crystal castles, then you know alice glass, and if you know alice glass, you know her iconic eyeliner shape. this is a very basic tutorial to get that shape. this is very beginner friendly!! i only used black powder eyeshadow, a black eye pencil, a fluffy eye brush, and a pencil eye brush. i did not use primer or transition shadows. you can do these steps and stop, or you can continue building and refining. here are some edited selfies of the final look:

oh btw i have no eyebrows, i tweeze them all out lol but that is irrelevant :p
hehe YAY okay step one!! start by dipping the fluffy brush into the black eyeshadow, you dont need to pick up a lot. with your eyes open and looking at yourself in a mirror, swipe the brush from the outer corner of your eye to the inner corner in a straight line. (no windshield wiper motions).

it'll come out like this:

notice that the roundness of the brush is creating a rounded outer corner for you. this is the general technique!! using the brush's shape to create the eyeshadow shape :)
one eye has too much shadow in the inner corner for my liking so i just use my finger to smudge it away. the benefit of not using eye primer is being able to smudge away eyeshadow easily to refine the shape.

you can put eyeshadow all over the lid now, and i'm switching to cotton buds to fix the shape, but you can continue to use your fingers of course :)

now with the same fluffy brush, holding it upright (as opposed to straight on), put eyeshadow on your lower eyelid. you do not have to be perfect about any step, and if you get bumpy smudgy lines, you can 1. leave them cos it looks cool either way or 2. clean up the edge with your finger or cotton bud!!

meet the bottom eyeshadow up with the top! the roundness of the brush will do the heavy lifting of blending and creating shape. if eyeshadow gets too low for your liking, you already know what im about to say lol grab your cotton bud or finger tip and wipe aaaaall your problems away ^_^

quick check in, here's what it'll look like at this point: (generally speaking. you probably have eyes shaped different from mine, and your alice glass eyeliner shape might be taller or wider because your eyes are taller or wider than mine!)

okay, now on to the smaller pencil brush, and the eyeliner. im using a large eye pencil, but this step can be done with any eyeliner that doesn't dry and set right away. take the pointed end of your pencil brush and stick it right into the liner, covering the bristles of the brush.

this is going to be used to darken the eyeshadow, and give you a little more control over the shape. the fluffy brush left a soft guide, so you can now know where to draw an even sharper shape. the pencil brush is a rounded brush too, so it works to enforce the rounded shape just like the fluffy brush did.
i prefer to use the eye pencil like this on the brush rather than straight out of the pencil because your skin will warm up the pencil/liner and that can get out of hand quick. with the eyeliner on the brush, you have finer control over how much gets applied, depending on how much pressure you use when drawing with it.
first cover your eyelids with the liner, then go in and draw that sharper shape. just follow the soft guide you gave yourself with the shadow!

to get the top of the shape sharp, and to avoid blending anything, i draw a straight line across with my eyes open, just like in the first step!! if you have hooded eyes like mine, doing your eye makeup with your eyes open is a game changer :)

now use the pencil on the bottom lid, easy peasy just go over what you did with the eyeshadow.

you can skip this next step if you dont want to put makeup inside your waterline (the inner pink part surrounding your eye that doesnt grow lashes). im comfortable with it, so i wiped the liner off of my brush and dipped it into the black eyeshadow. eyeshadow will last longer than my eye pencil, but if you are using a gel liner or something that sets, you can use your liner in your waterline.
use your other hand to gentlyyy open your eye, and get it in there!! after its in, smudge closely all around your eye, so along your lashes, and into your inner-most eye corner (where sleep crusties form lol).

and one last cotton bud clean up...

YAY it is done!! you can put more black eyeshadow on top of the eye pencil/liner and get an even darker black if you'd like, this will also probably help it last longer.
here's what it looks like done, eyes shut, open, and looking away :)

sometimes alice glass wears this look pitch black, and sometimes it's more sheer, i like sheer eyeshadow so that's how far i took it, but like i said of course you can make it as dark as you want!!
some notes, secondary to everything:
- the products i used are wet n wild single eyeshadow in panther, and the nyx jumbo eye pencil in black bean.
- if you use eye primer first, it can prevent creasing (idc about creasing but i understand if u do), it will help the makeup stay for longer, and it will make your shadows apply more pigmented. i ditched it today to keep this tutorial approachable and cheap.
- i pretty much do not use mascara any more, my eyelashes are pretty short and sparse, but you can do whateva u want ;)
okay!! i hope this was helpful or at the very last fun to scroll thru, and i welcome feedback, thanks for hanging with me!! i def want to do more so if you have any requests... let this girl know ^_^
