The Transfiguration

On a cold, gloomy day, Theodoros, after a hard day of building a camp with his brothers-in-arms, lied down onto his ramshackle sleeping bag. As he drifted away from sleep, he uttered out in solemn prayer, "Into Thy hands, O Lord," he said, "I commend my soul and body. Do thou thyself bless me, have mercy upon me, and grant me life eternal. Amen."

He soon drifted off into the sea of sleep.

He had soon awakened not in a tent, but near a mountain. He sat to 3 people. Looking at them, they were young men. No older then about 25, and were dressed in robes and rags. Theodoros then gazed up to the mountain. He saw a man, dressed in robes. His sandals glimmered in the sun. He looked in amazement as his face was brilliantly radiating the sky. And when he looked his clothes, they were whiter then snow.

In amazement, Theodoros stood in fear, in odd piety. He couldn't take his gaze off the man on the mountain. Theodoros then watched as the two prophets, Moses, with his staff and long beard, and Elijah, with his shorter beard and longer hair. And he watched, as they talked with this man. The men next to him said, "Lord, it is good for us to be here, he exclaimed, "if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah!"

Theodoros woke up.

He got up, lifted the warm covers off his body, and prepared himself for another day of marching. But, as he is marching, he asks himself, "Was that the Son of Man?"
