I have been asked this a few times, so I thought I'd make a post about it.
The purpose of the "IM Link Safe Word" is that whenever I send a link through a IM, I include the word so people know it's actually me who sends it. If I send a link to anyone and it doesn't include that word I have on my profile, don't open it.
I initially did this on Discord, because many people's accounts were getting compromised on there and sending malicious links in direct messages to take over more accounts. I eventually expanded it to all socials because it started happening in more places.
I'm not the person to send IMs, but in the event I do, I'll include this word if the IM has a link.
I am careful with links I open and have 2FA enabled on all sites I can enable it on.
