i got a 3ds [14-may-25]

i remember my older cousin and i really wanted animal crossing nh when it released back in 2020. of course, we needed a switch to play it, which was something neither of our stingy (romanian) parents were willing to pay for. even my bratty 13 year old self understood that one was too expensive for us after looking it up, so i stopped bothering my dad. instead of giving up, my cousin settled for a 3ds.

im not gonna lie, i thought it was pretty lame when she first showed it to me. it wasnt the pretty pastels id seen online, but a boring grey. the graphics couldnt compare to the newer switch and you couldnt even play the new awesome animal crossing game, only the old and outdated one. i distinclty remember my cousin showing me a game she really liked, "tomodachi life". she allowed me to make my little edgy gacha life oc in there (her name was rio btw) and showed me around. i thought that was pretty cool. still, i was uninterested, so i quickly forgot about the 3ds.

after 5 years i was reminded of tomodachi life by the new edition coming this 2026. after thoroughly thinking about it (for 30 minutes), i decided to buy a used 3ds to play the original 2014 version. i searched though willhaben (austrian ebay) and found her: a metallic pink undamaged 3ds for $120. i went to the sellers house and bought her that same day. now i just needed to find someone selling tomodachi life near me.

this was difficult. poeple in my city were pricing the game over what i was willing to pay and the decently priced options were on the other side of the country. a guy was selling it for $13 near me but he never answered. i bought nintendogs+cats and other games to kill time, but i was getting impatient, so i decided to mod my beloved 3ds and get tomodachi life for free.

i honestly dont know what took me so long. maybe i was afraid of messing something up? that plus i knew i needed to get an sd card cuz the 2 gigs it came with werent gonna cut it.. anyways, im SO GLAD i decided to mod my 3ds. the process was so easy. im both a moron and illiterate when it comes to tech but i still managed just fine. ive installed so many games (including my tomodachi life ofc) and downloaded cute themes. im currently in the process of decorating her, i found some cute stickers on vinted (if anyone here makes cute stickers/charms and lives in europe HMU, i am NOT buying from ali express or temu).

this might be an unpopular opinion but i like the 3ds more than the switch. i actually bought a switch lite for $150 (preparing for tomodachi life 2026...) and two games but i havent touched it for a few days. maybe my opinion will change when living the dream releases, who knows.

buying the 3ds wasnt only a good decission bcs of the fun ive been having playing w it, but also bcs it sparked an interest for (old) tech. i started using my dads old sony minidisc and finally bought a charger for the nikon coolpix i got for my birthday (speaking of, i got her for such a good deal omfg $35?? for a fully functioning digital camera? i love flea markets) and im looking to buy another handheld (either a psp 3000 or a ps vita).

honestly im only writing this bcs i got bored while waiting for project mirai to install (bigger games take ages!), but its done downloading so im gonna stop writing, ive yapped enough bye bye!!
