Nostalgia and today

I feel like everything is going backwards these days. I feel like humans base the rest of our lives on the feeling of nostalgia after the ages of like 12 because most of us lose that innocence and then we start realizing shit and seeing the real world without our child goggles on. Yeah im just describing growing up but in this day and age people focus so much on different eras of the humans race and try to encapsulate that in an aesthetic instagram post or tik tok. Like “hey look at me im dressing up as the y2k aesthetic”. Where im getting at is that the majority of people seek that comfort of what they think was an easier and less stressful time. Like how gen z find the comfort in music from 2010-2014 because the majority of us were kids and life didnt seem as stressful as it does now. Oh how i wish we can go back to that. That i could live out those days as a teenager,, the reality of it all is that we would’ve been feeling the same way we do now. I’m sure the teenagers in that time found life annoying and overwhelming and thought “i wish we can go back to 2003 or something because they were kids too.. they probably yearned for their childhood the same way we do. I just feel like its kinda funny that we all just wanna go backwards in time,, at least not past 2000. I think a lot of it is social media too. If we didnt have social media i feel like we wouldn’t be stuck so much on the past yk? I feel like social media takes these pictures of our childhood and put it with a song from 2012 and we get stuck in that nostolgia and this might just be me but i feel like it stops people from becoming creative and original for the future. I mean when u think about it,, when’s the last time you’ve seen original ideas in the art industry. Hot take id say but what do i know,, im literally online at 4 am typing all this out.

Nostalgia is a trap that is exploited by capitalism! When your friends engage in nostalgia, they are making a throwback reference to something you have already done and giving you a feeling of intimacy between people due to shared experience. When a corporation puts a song you know behind a video they are trying to push, you are being manipulated. Now you have visual stimulus with your song that didn't have a video before, so you can be further nostalgia farmed.

Most people enjoy many of these manipulations, but just like commercials you need to learn to tune out nostalgia, when offered as a service. Always be trying an discovering new things, or you might find your nostalgia becomes too expensive, or disappears because of overproduction and loss of base materials.

Do not let corporations dictate the way people enjoy life! Ignore social media other than your friends because someone from across the world is never going to help you with the issue, you need real teamwork!
