Following the six rounds of sparring that I wrote about in bulletins, I got advised to come in early to train with the same man I was sparring to work on head movement drills, so I came in early, but a bit too early, which got me some extra rounds with some younger boxers, albeit still in my weight range due to how I'm a bantamweight. I'd assume I'm around 10 ish kg heavier than them, but they were some fun rounds and I got to work on the head movement a bit. Though it's gonna need some work still.
I later got to practice head movement before skipping, and then went onto the main sparring. I did well, but I still have a long way to go, specifically against this one partner, he's a taller, faster and heavier person, but it's his technique the most that gets through to me. He's a counter puncher and his footwork is superior to mine, but I'm starting to chip away at him bit by bit. I've progressed from just taking punches to deliver my own, and I'm getting better at evading him, I just need to reach him without him reaching me, maybe by changing angles, though that'll take practice.
I did get told that I performed a ''good move'' during the sparring, which I hadn't realised in the heat of the moment, I managed to roll his hook perfectly and change off an angle, though I hadn't planned on it. I believe that part of my weakness is hesitance and overthinking, and that when I have the technique drilled into myself without thinking, it will be more effective, though it'll take time. Despite him being superior, I know the best way to improve is to send myself head first into an opponent that will push me.
Either way, I was battered and tired and having fun.
I purchased a new set of gloves today, 10oz Red Sting gloves, though they hadn't quite set in during the session, my fingers were cut at the edges due to the leather, but it'll break in soon. The next things I'll have to purchase are a good pair of new running shoes, then the red competition clothes, then I'll have to eventually invest in the blue colours so I can fight in both corners, but there is time.
Other than training today, I spent most of my college getting through lessons then just thinking. We're nearing the end of the year and I've still kept a distance from the people around me, of course I've had conversations, and would consider these people friends, but I know that there has to be distance for the sake of tomorrow.
I'll see you again.
