Citrus: is this anime weird?? (spoiler alert)

So I was talking to my boyfriend yesterday abt one of my favorite wlw anime and he said that the concept of it was kinda weird and is repelled by it.

If you don't know or haven't watched it then its about two girls, one who is preppy, loud, friendly, and talkative towards all ppl, she's forced to move schools bc her mom found a new bf and had to move away. The new school is a put together, well established school. It has lots of rules and is more professional than her last one, so shes not used to it and commonly gets in trouble or embarrasses herself in front of ppl. The second girl is the granddaughter of the guy that owns the school and is top of her class, class president, serious, and engaged (Its an arranged marriage). When the two girls meet they don't like each other at all. But then when the first girl (the protagonist) goes home she realizes the second girl is there also. Her mom explains how they're step sisters and that they'll be living together from now on. After some time passes the protagonist is antagonizing the second girl abt her arranged engagement and one thing leads to another and they end up kissing. The second girl thinks nothing of it but the protagonist is deeply affected by this, realizing she developed feelings for her stepsister. The rest of the show leads on to how their relationship grows and conflict within the story.

Now the problem my bf has is that he thinks its weird that the creators are romanticizing step-sibling relationships and how its basically incest. But one of the major conflicts in the show is that the protagonist didn't want to make a move on the second girl BECAUSE they were step siblings.

My side of the story is that I don't think its weird bc they met before they were official step siblings and they're not blood related or anything. They barely knew each other and didn't grow up together so its not like they see each other as siblings anyway. THEY JUST MET. I personally think the story is heartfelt and I loved watching their relationship grow stronger even after all the trauma the second girl went through in her childhood, developing trust issues. While the protagonist works to break her out of her shell as they stop hating each other. A classic story trope of enemies to lovers.

Now I'm not saying that my bf is in the dead wrong bc I can see how ppl may think its weird for step-siblings to like each other and be romanticized. But the situation that the girls are in doesn't seem to be as weird as step siblings who knew each other for a long time and didn't have any chemistry. I highly recommend watching the show to see how you feel abt it and to develop your own opinion.

EDIT: I feel as if I should also add that neither of them are underage as they are both 17 and both turn 18 as the show progresses. So both the protagonist and her love interest are grown, fully developed, and legal adults by the time they get together.

Do ya think that it's weird? Am I weird for rlly liking the show??

I've always heard citrus was the yuri ppl would always use for "weird anime" I mean I never watched it so idk T^T
BUT! I get the weird dynamic of step sibling dating. as much as it isn't incest we can see how it isnt really normal P:. Idk those types of step sibling dynamics I always stayed away from in general.
BUT!! Ofc ;-) I also heard good things and funny things about citrus

I don't think its weird, I mean yeah I totally see how some may be weirded out by it but like you said, they already had a relationship beforehand (Not a romantic nor platonic one it seems but still) so their romantic relationship doesn't derive from them being step siblings but from them genuinely loving eachother.
BUT ive also never watched this anime so I should keep my mouth shut lol

I don't think you're weird for liking citrus, it's really fun and just a show after all.

About your bf finding it problematic, it feels a bit stupid saying it's basically incest, because it's not. There's a clear defined reason for why incest is frowned upon / illegal in most places.

The truth is that they were both strangers and you don't have the rejection you'd have against a normal step sibling because you weren't raised alongside them.

Also saying it's basically incest is like saying you almost commited a crime, like what? it either is or isn't.
