Hace un año y unos meses más conocí ProtoWeb gracias a los videos de Michael MJD, y me quedé impresionado con lo excelente que funciona en el video. Así que no perdí el tiempo para poder configurarlo en una máquina virtual con Windows XP SP2 y llevarme un gusto enorme con lo rápdio que me funcionaba en esa máquina. La navegación era muy fluida y rara vez daba problemas. Parecía como estar navegando en los 2000's con las velocidades actuales de conexión a internet. No solo recreaba la hermosa UI de los viejos sitios de internet, sino que también la funcionalidad de los mismos era algo increiblemente placentera: sin errores y muy rápido. Un punto a destacar son los motores de búsqueda que puedes usar (Google, Yahoo!, AltaVista, etc.) y que poseen datos de una API de la época y muy funcionales. Pero sin lugar a dudas es el contenido en vivo o Live Content, en los cuales puedes jugar Runscape instalando los plugins de Java Runtime, oir música en estaciones de radio en vivo usando software auxiliar como Winamp, y poder ver videos en un sitio de brocats con la API del propio YouTube. Todo eso combinado con Escargot para usar MSN Messenger y Nina (son lo mismo con otro nombre) para usar Yahoo Messenger, AIM, IQC (pago), etc. hacen que sea una experiencia fascinante de usar y poder darle vida a ese software que hoy en día extrañamos.

A year and a few months ago I got to know ProtoWeb thanks to Michael MJD's videos, and I was impressed with how excellent it works in the video. So I wasted no time in setting it up on a virtual machine with Windows XP SP2 and was very pleased with how fast it worked on that machine. The navigation was very fluid and rarely gave problems. It felt like surfing in the 2000's with today's internet connection speeds. Not only did it recreate the beautiful UI of the old internet sites, but also the functionality of the sites was something incredibly pleasant: no errors and very fast. A highlight is the search engines that you can use (Google, Yahoo!, AltaVista, etc.) and that have data from an API of the time and very functional. But without a doubt is the Live Content, in which you can play Runscape by installing Java Runtime plugins, listen to music on live radio stations using auxiliary software such as Winamp, and watch videos on a brocats site with YouTube's own API. All that combined with Escargot to use MSN Messenger and Nina (they are the same thing with a different name) to use Yahoo Messenger, AIM, IQC (paid), etc. makes it a fascinating experience to use and bring back to life that software we miss today.
