Why do some people be so mean for no reason? Especially to LGBTQ people?

I know this is a rlly dumb question, but I’m genuinely asking. It takes more time and effort to hate on, and insult someone rather than just ignoring them. I’m not saying you have to like everyone, but you don’t need to hate on them just because you don’t like them, or they’re not normal in your eyes. They are still human and still deserve respect. Even if it is little respect you don’t need to shame them or tell them to k!ll themselves every time you see them because YOU have a problem with them. Especially if they are apart of LGBTQ community. Just because they like someone different from you, doesn’t change who they are and doesn’t change that their human and have feelings.

I really just have to vent I think. So stop reading if you don’t want to hear my venting

So I’m in a business class with one of my best friends, I’ll call her C for privacy reasons. And these boys in my class, are total d!ckheads. Especially the main guy. I’ll call him L. Anyway, L has always been an asshole, but last week he crossed a line. 

(Some context: I’m bi, but I have several friends that are gay and lesbian.) 

We were sitting in a circle on our chairs around the white board (something our teacher makes us do) and L and his mates were across the classroom from me and C. 

The conversation with the teacher led to relationships, and then L blurred out: 

“Gay people are disgusting.” And the way my blood boiled at that one comment. But our teacher is a really cool and chill guy, so he said “L, don’t say that. It’s disrespectful and rude to gay people.” 

Then, with the whole class watching, L said: 

“Gay people should go h4ng themselves. We have two genders for a reason.” 

He said the last part in a mocking voice, and his little buddy’s started laughing. In that moment of shocked silence everyone else had, my mind went red. C must’ve seen that I got greatly triggered by that statement, so she put her hand around my arm to stop me from doing anything. The way I wanted to jump over the table and beat the living sh!t out of him was unreal. And, even that sentence would be shocking to anyone, it hit me hard. I lost one of my best friends to that kind of bullying. She was bullied for being a lesbian, and one day I didn’t go to school(bc of my family reasons) and it hit her hard. And….yeah. I don’t think I’ll write anymore of what happened because I’m already starting to cry while writing this. Anyway, L got suspended and my business teacher made it his duty to make sure that comment L made was on all of his student records.
