introducing the kaigai idol sensation that is... the farewell~girls!!

(this post is being written in-character as the manager of the idol group).

The Farewell~Girls!! is an up-and-coming kaigai J-pop idol group consisting of 4 girls with colorful (and clashing) personalities. Their mission is simple: reach into the depths of your heart, and then go down in history as the best idols to ever live!

Colette Thérèse Demarteau

Colette is a 16-year-old French girl with an old soul and a love for all things vintage and gothic. She has a diplomatic and polite personality, but she isn't stiff and boring. She wears a sweet smile at all times.

Colette's unique, gothic style brings a bittersweet air to the overall feeling of The Farewell~Girls. However, her looks aren't her only refreshing feature. She's the most level-headed, reasonable girl in this group, and she's fiercely passionate about making their collective dreams come true. Though, to be honest, this is just my way of saying that she's the only one here who isn't out of their GODDAMN MIND!

She is the picture of a perfect idol, aiming and wanting only for her fans and unit to smile. Her performances are inspired and driven by her love of musical theatre, especially old traveling troupes from France and Italy.

As a part of our debut, I collected self-introduction sheets from each girl. Here is Colette's:

Daiyu Léi (雷黛玉)

Daiyu is 18 years old and Chinese-American. She was previously the leader of a Kaigai idol group named Confession♫Garden, which has long been disbanded due to.. a certain controversy. Now a wisened and experienced member of the J-pop scene in America, she has decided to drop the typical cutesy schtick of her previous group. Her new image? Good girl gone bad. 

The first thing most notice about Daiyu is her.. Colorful persona. She is loud, brash, and disrespectful, much more like a member of a punk band than a Japanese idol. She wears a unique style for her occupation, inspired by 2000s streetwear with a punkish touch. Her trouble-making and fun-loving personality adds a bit of edge and excitement to the idol scene, no doubt. However, I must admit, this girl is a PR nightmare. And don't get me STARTED on her "punk" style. She's such a poser.

Daiyu loves to party, do legally dubious activities, and hook up with girls after shows. She told me to say that, I promise. She is motivated and inspired by the attitude of MySpace-era musicians, and aims to bring that DGAF spirit to the Kaigai idol scene. "These chicks are all the same," she says, and that "will kill the community." So, I suppose you could call her a hero... or something like that.

Livie Vinoray

Livie is a trans girl from the Philippines. She's 16 years old, and was previously a bit of a shut-in, but is now trying to break into the idol scene! She was raised by her traditional, Christian father, who was very pushy about making her to inherit his furniture business. As a self-described otaku, Livie loves J-pop, video games, and anime. She also likes to live stream in her free time.

Livie loves all things adorable and feminine, because they make her feel like herself. She wants nothing more than to be treated as a "real," cute girl, like the other idols. Her style of dress is most similar to a typical idol, as a result. She is a timid and somewhat neurotic person, but she's learning to come out of her shell. She means no harm and makes that rather clear with her shy and sweet smile.

It may seem like Livie will only contribute more of the same, bland and tired J-pop to the scene, but that's not her intent. She is particularly enamored by electronic music and VOCALOID, and wants to find a way to incorporate digital avatars and synthesized vocals into real-life concerts-- without removing the aspect of human performers. She also hopes to be a beacon of light and hope for other transgender girls and women, because she knows firsthand how cruel the world is to her sisters.

Lanuola "Tui" 

Tui's an 18-year-old Samoan girl who initially didn't even want to be an idol. Her passion is in acting and modeling, but this new occupation would be a good second chance at gaining recognition. By that logic, she says, it's worth a try! She was raised by a family that worked in tourism and hospitality, so despite the isolated culture of her home, she was exposed to the outside world quite a bit. Japanese pop culture always fascinated her, and she grew up watching the English dub of Sailor moon.

She was popular among the people in her home village, children and adults alike. She's known for being sweet, charismatic, and a healthy amount of silly-- though she's also a little bit vain and shallow. At least, that's what people have always thought of her. Her style of dress and makeup come from her passion for beauty and film. She also incorporates flowers and beachwear, conjuring the image of her lush, tropical home. 

Though Tui had to leave her, Mele is the driving force in all she does. They may be separated by the veil that divides the living and the dead, but Tui hopes to make her dear friend smile, even knowing that she could never see it. This, Tui says, is what motivates her to do her best.

thank you for reading this post, if you did. even if you just skimmed over it, that means a lot to me! i don't quite know what i want to do with these characters. initially, their story was intended to be a visual novel project. however, now i'm not so sure. we'll just have to wait and see if anything comes of them. =3 thank you again!
