ARTS CHALLENGE CHOICE- TEXTILES

I've ultimately decided that I'd like to pursue textiles for my arts challenge for a number of reasons, listed below:

• EXPERIENCE- I have some experience with hand sewing, I learned how to when I was eleven as I'd wanted to try making my own clothes (I was mostly unsuccessful-) and I also have some experience with using fabric paints. 

• EXPERIMENTING- Textiles is an area that I haven't had the chance to  be quite so creative or inventive with as compared to the 2D forms of art that I'm used to so I'd like to explore other options and try things that I didn't know I could do within textiles. Most of my work in textiles has been limited to simple alterations to the size of clothes so I'd like to try and do something more inventive than that. 

• INTEREST- I have a personal interest in fashion and clothing design so I'd like to explore making my own designs to wear and share with others, I've also been looking into possible careers in the fashion industry so I think that choosing textiles would be a great idea. 

• SUSTAINABILITY- I also have an interest specifically in sustainable fashion and in the working conditions and work of garment workers, so I'd really like to gain an understanding of what really goes into garment creation as well as to make use of second hand materials that may have otherwise been headed to landfill.
