CRITÍCA DE CANCIÓN/SONG REVIEW #2: Besos De Papel - souphis

Desde el principio, esta canción me hace pensar en una escena calma ensombrecida con un aire de tristeza — como estar en un lago durante la puesta del sol pensando en los tiempos viejos. 

La guitarra acústica crea una base nostálgica, y es más desarrollada con el sonido relajado del ritmo de la batería y línea de bajo. Pero, lo que me hizo la canción fue la guitarra eléctrica. Se comporta como un corista, teniendo un sonido más fluido en vez de estar contenido en un riff estricto. Porque de este, es un complemento para la voz de souphis y me hace pensar que es la memoria de la persona atormentando ella.   

Hablando de su voz, necesito decir que es absolutamente linda. Suave con una tocada de melancolía, el sonido de su voz podría decir toda la historia, permitiendo aunque a aquellos que no pueden entender español sentir los sentimientos que la estuvieron plagando. 

Dije en mi última crítica que no me gustan tanto las letras de amor/desengaño amoroso, pero estas letras me han agarrado el corazón con el modo figurativo que fueron presentados en el estribillo. Por ejemplo, el título de la canción – Besos De Papel – refiere a las cartas que le dio su amante. Creo que es un modo perfecto para describir cosas íntimas como cartas de amor, porque son lo más cercano que las personas pueden estar cuando están lejos. Me encanta la letra “y de su sonrisa de miel” también porque ayuda al oyente a imaginar la calidez de una sonrisa que nunca ha visto. 

Mis únicos criticismos que tengo son que el sonido no es tan único y las letras son poco repetitivas durante los versos. Siento que he oído miles de canciones que suenan de esta manera, así que no podía escogerla desde una multitud. Además, tanto de las letras incluyen alguna versión de la frase “pensar en usted”, desgastando el tema de la canción un poco. 

En total, esta canción es definitivamente perfecta para reflexionar sobre un amor perdido. Souphis habla sobre la prisión emocional para aquellos que están atascados en una persona que no vale la pena, pero no pueden ayudarlo. Con esta siendo su segunda publicación, digo que es un comienzo muy bueno. Espero ver su carrera crecer y desarrollar a ser más única, así que puede continuar a publicar música tan linda y impactante como esta canción.

From the start, this song makes me think of a calm scene overshadowed by an air of sadness – like being at a lake during sunset thinking about old times. 

The acoustic guitar creates a nostalgic foundation, which is then further built upon by the easygoing drum pattern and bassline. What really made the song for me though was the lead guitar. It acts as a sort of background singer, having a more free-flowing sound rather than being confined to a strict riff. Because of this, it complements souphis’ voice and kind of makes me think that it is the memory of the person she is talking about haunting her in the back of her mind. 

Speaking of her voice, it is absolutely beautiful. Soft with a touch of melancholy, just the sound of her voice alone can tell the story, allowing even those who do not understand her to feel the emotions that have been plaguing her. 

I stated in my last review that I wasn’t a big fan of lyrics to do with love/heartbreak, but this one captured my heart with the figurative way she presented her situation in the chorus. For example, the song title - Besos De Papel - refers to the letters her lover gave her. I think that is the perfect way to describe such intimate things like letters, as they are the closest people can get when they are apart. I also love the line “y de su sonrisa de miel” ("and of their honey smile") because it helps the listener envision and feel the warmth of a smile they have never seen. 

The only criticisms I have of this song are that sound-wise it’s not anything groundbreaking, and that the lyrics are a bit repetitive during the verses. I feel like I’ve heard a thousand songs that sound like this one, so I would not be able to really pick it out of a crowd. In addition, the lyrics mostly include some form of the phrase “thinking of you”, kind of wearing out the message of the song a bit. 

Overall, this song definitely is perfect for reflecting upon a love lost. Souphis speaks for the emotional prison of those who know that being stuck on somebody is not worth it, but cannot help it. With this being her second release ever, I would say that it is definitely a good start. I hope to see her career grow and develop to be more unique, so that she can continue to release music as beautiful and impactful as this song.
