My Song of the Week | Week 3

I'm

late with this one. But hey, better late than never, aye? Hope everyone's week has been grand and going well. Yesterday, the 25th, I did some musical soul searching and went through a bunch of music from one artist that may have made it to my heart before any other band could've. And that band is... Three Days Grace. And with that, this week's song is:

Ahh, the old look of a song who's music video came out a month before I turned 13... Doesn't that make some of you feel old? I remember watching it later the next year and absolutely loving it as I internalized the phrase "misery loves my company". Although it seems tacky now, there is still something about the way the music video looks that draws me back to it every now and then. Maybe it's the way the Transit of Venus kid smiles while he has his demons ruin everyone and everything around him; or it's the style of animation. Either or, it really gives the world the artist built some sort of feeling.

As I grew up the song became more truthful than I wanted it to be. All of my relationships ended thanks to the voices in my head, ending in me being more alone than I had hoped. Even through it all, I always was able to find solace in the music I was able to find through the dark times. The line "I don't need your condescending words about me looking lonely" may speak true to those who have family that love to be in your business. Most people I knew growing up had the "have a girlfriend yet?" talk every now and then, and mine was no different.
Sometimes it's best that you find the shadow following you is closer than many of the friends you have, and I'm no different. After what happened last year, I've grown to accept that I am on a path of being alone. Alone in a sense of relationships. If I've learned anything from this song, it's that you are never truly alone as long as you have that long winded shadow following you. And no matter where you look, there's bound to be at least one.

"I'm gonna dig a hole and bury all the memories we made." If only. I'm sure if it were that easy, then we would all never learn from our past mistakes. Even if it's something we so desperately desire; deleting past memories, no matter how cringe inducing they are, can lead to you making the same bad mistakes. And somehow, through many times doing the same thing to many different partners, I have yet to learn what not to do. Misery really does love my company.

If you want to add anything to this discussion or feel like I may have missed something about the song that you found, please feel free to comment and let me know! I usually just use my own experiences to talk about a song and everyone has their own, so if you wanted I would love to hear about what this song reminds you of or brings you back to! Even if it's just to say "Hey, I like this song", I'll definitely reply back to give my two cents! Have a good week everyone. See y'all next Thursday... hopefully.
