ween part 3 pure guava

well its been a while

anyway

while ive been gone i still havent lost my absolute love for ween in fact they only get better with each listen now i want to talk about pure guava

pure guava is an album

its a pretty mixed bag all things considered but when it hits it fucking hits i mean push the lil daisies, flies on my dick, sarah, springtheme, dont come 2 close to my fantasy, man this album rocks you get psych and glam rock type stuff mixed in with the most oddball experimental tracks in thier discography nothing beats the brownness of the pod for me but this aint no slouch now in my last review i failed to go over the history of the album so ill remedy that now

the pod name for their second album was due to a new studio they were working in which they dubbed the pod this new studio came with new limitation they went down from an 8 to a 4 track tape machine and due to their elderly neighbors they decided against having a live drummer instead opting for a drum machine this change really molded the brown sound in a way that nothing else could the low fidelity of it along with the loss of a bombastic live drum set allowed their songs to take a sludgier aproach this really shines through on the pod and man i could not glaze that album enough their sound in the brown trilogy is something ive tried to find substitutes for but nothing quite matches it (pork soda, twilight, alex g , and king gizz come close at times) but boy o boy the pod continues to innovate on the drum machine this would be their last album recorded on a 4 track (la cucaracha does not exist) and they took it to some wierd places the album kicks off with little birdie which when i first heard it felt like i dropped acid this goes seamlesly into tender situation which is one of their most intimate songs and the album has its ups and downs but is definitely worth the listen
