sooo among the ton of games i installed on my modded 3ds was animal crossing: new leaf. cuz why not? i remember the rage about it during the covid lockdown, i installed the mobile ac game (pocket camp iirc). it didn't stick but i blamed the lack of stuff to do on mobile sloppification and called it quits. but it was cute and i kinda got the hype around animal crossing as a whole. also i kinda also sewed filbert... yeah... and can't forget the raymond copy pasta. so it wasn't out of question for me to try a different game on an intended platform. ANYWAYS, let's cut to the chase
i started playing ac:nl at one of the worst possible times: right before everything started closing. so, isabelle showed me the ropes, cut to tom nook giving me a piece of land. "check back later, maybe tomorrow to see the cost!" okay, i dallied around a bit, walked to the main street. his agency was closed for the day. i guessed that i wouldn't be able to get my house immediately, but i hoped to see how much i needed to earn at least. nope! okay, then i tried to walk around the town, but i guess far from all villagers are available at 9-10 pm... i managed to snatch a top at able sisters', tho! but nothing much. gathered a bunch of peaches (does fruit change based on calendar?), caught a couple of fish, collected a few seashells, submitted three fossils to the museum
i guess the appeal about this game is the time gate? the only two lines of comparison i have are the sims 3 and stardew valley, where the progression is mostly controlled by the player. like, time in those games does correlate with irl time, but a lot of it can be sped up/skipped. animal crossing is all about the village living in the same timeline as you. i did hear about it beforehand, so encountering it didn't throw me off at all. buuuuuut uuuuuh i am so so so used to games with a faster pace...
anyways! i have only played an hour and a half or around that, so it's far FAR from everything i could possibly see. i mean, it's tied to system calendar! i am not changing it constantly just to see 5 minutes of the game. i don't really like the way they make the player return (can't really call that replayability), but it makes sense, and, most importantly, it works somewhat and i see myself playing it a few hours more sometime later
i mean. i can't recommend a game i only spent less than two hours in. or say anything against trying. so no proper conclusion. but i comprehend
ps: named my town dimsk in honor of my current oc blorbo dima. named my character maiza cuz, well, that's me...
