fakir musafar

fakir musafar is known as the father of modern body modification. that title can sometimes be confusing. sometimes people misinterpret that as people are calling this white guy the inventor or originator of body modification practices that have existed for hundreds or thousands of years. this is inaccurate. anyone who claims that is wrong, but calling fakir ‘the father of modern body modification’ is not that. 

the vast majority of practices fakir participated in have existed for a very long time and have their origins in various black and indigenous cultures. what fakir did is take these traditional practices and innovate. his experimentation worked as the foundation the modern body art movement was based on. 

the domino effect that fakir musafar started had an everlasting impact on the state of body modification across the world. without him piercing shops wouldn’t exist. things like tongue splitting, subdermal implants, dermal piercings, eyebrow piercings, eyeball tattoos and more would also probably never have existed without the legacy of fakir musafar. 

the vast majority of modified people today have fakir to thank for the body they have created. he was a legend and he always will be. rest in peace fakir musafar
